Мануэль Кастеллс начинал свою карьеру уче­ного как марксист. Будучи экспертом по про­блемам урбанизма, он пытался применять к изучению городов идеи Маркса. Однако впо­следствии Кастеллс отошел от марксизма. По­добно Бодрийяру, он заинтересовался влияни­ем, которое оказывают на общество инфор­мационные и коммуникационные технологии. По мнению Кастеллса, в информационном обществе наблюдается рост сетей и сетевой экономики. Напротив, основой производства являются телекоммуни­кации и компьютеры.

Кастеллс уделяет мало внимания тому, как эти изменения сказываются на тендерных отношениях. Значительно больше его занима­ет воздействие этих изменений на личность человека и на его повседневную жизнь. В сете­вом обществе индивидуальность человека ста­новится гораздо более открытой сущностью.


Мы больше не заимствуем свою индивидуаль­ность из прошлого, нам приходится активно создавать ее, взаимодействуя с другими лю­дьми. Это непосредственно затрагивает сферу семьи, а также, в более общем плане, струк­турирование личности мужчины и женщины. Индивидуальность мужчин и женщин больше не определяется традиционными ролями в об­ществе. Так, раньше «местом» женщин был дом, тогда как «место» мужчин некогда было «вне дома на работе». Такое деление в настоящее время рухнуло.

Кастеллс называет новую глобальную эко­номику «автоматом» (the automaton) — так же как и Хабермас, он считает, что мы уже боль­ше не имеем полного контроля над миром, который сами же создали. В этом высказыва­нии Кастеллса повторяются слова, сказанные столетием ранее Максом Вебером, который по­лагал, что рост бюрократии приведет к тому, что все мы окажемся заключенными в «же­лезную клетку». Как сформулировал это Ка­стеллс, «кошмар человечества, порожденный видом наших машин, которые захватывают власть над нашим миром, находится, по-види­мому, на грани превращения в реальность — но не в форме роботов, отнимающих у людей рабочие места, или правительственных ком­пьютеров, которые устанавливают полицей­ский контроль над нашей жизнью, но в виде электронной системы финансовых операций» {Castells 2000, 56).

Инфор­мационные технологии, заключает Кастеллс, могут стать средством усиления местной вла­сти и возрождения сообщества. В качестве примера он приводит Финляндию. Финляндия является самым развитым информационным обществом в мире. Все школы в этой стране имеют доступ к Интернету, и большинство на­селения здесь компьютерно грамотно. В то же время Финляндия представляет собой прочно устоявшееся и эффективное социальное госу­дарство, хорошо приспособленное к нуждам новой экономики.

В моих собственных работах я также рассмат­риваю теоретические перспективы тех изме­нений, которые происходят в современном мире. Мы живем сейчас в мире, который я на­звал «убегающим» (runawayworld), неудержимо растущим, в мире, отмеченном новыми рис­ками и ситуациями неопределенности, подоб­ными тем, которые диагностировал Бек. В мире, где идут быстрые преобразо­вания, традиционные формы доверия имеют тенденцию исчезать. Раньше доверие к дру­гим людям обычно формировалось в местной общине. Однако теперь, когда мы живем в бо­лее мобилизованном обществе, на нашу жизнь оказывают влияние люди, которых мы нико­гда не видели и с которыми незнакомы, люди, которые, возможно, живут на другом конце земли от нас. Доверие означает, что мы долж­ны испытывать уверенность по отношению к «абстрактным системам» — например, что мы должны быть уверены в органах, которые контролируют продукты питания, производят очистку воды или обеспечивают эффектив­ность банковских систем. Доверие и риск тес­но связаны друг с другом. Для того чтобы противостоять окружающим нас рискам и эф­фективно реагировать на них, нам необходимо быть уверенными в таких органах власти.

Жизнь в веке информационном требует, с моей точки зрения, большего объема со­циальной рефлексивности. Понятие социаль­ной рефлексивности указывает на тот факт, что нам постоянно приходится думать или размышлять об обстоятельствах, в которых мы проводим жизнь. Во времена, когда об­щество в большей степени управлялось обы­чаями и традициями, люди могли следовать установленными путями и совершать поступ­ки, ни секунды не раздумывая о них. Для нас же многие аспекты жизни, которые преж­ними поколениями принимались просто как само собой разумеющиеся, связаны с необхо­димостью открытого принятия решения. На­пример, на протяжении многих столетий у лю­дей не было эффективных средств ограниче­ния количества детей в семье. С появлением современных форм контрацепции и других

технологических форм вмешательства в про­цесс деторождения родители получили воз­можность не только выбирать, сколько детей им иметь, но даже определять пол своих буду­щих детей. Эти новые возможности чреваты, разумеется, новыми этическими проблемами.

Совсем не доказано, что мы потеряли контроль над своим будущим. В век глобализ­ма государства, несомненно, утрачивают часть той власти, которой они обладали прежде. На­пример, государства оказывают меньше вли­яния на экономическую политику, чем рань­ше. Однако правительства сохраняют значи­тельную власть. Действуя сообща, народы мо­гут совместными усилиями восстановить на­ше влияние на неудержимо развивающийся мир. Те группы людей, на которые указывает Бек, — организации и движения, действую­щие за пределами официальной политиче­ской системы — могут играть важную роль. Подобные группировки могут включать, например, тех, кто активно выступает в защи­ту абортов или за более терпимое отношение к ним, и одновременно тех, кто придержива­ется прямо противоположного мнения. Демо­кратическое правительство должно оценивать эти различающиеся требования и интересы и реагировать на них.

1. В социологии (так же как и в других социальных науках) обнаруживается многообразие
теоретических подходов. Причину этого понять не столь уж трудно: теоретические разно­
гласия нелегко разрешить даже в естественных науках, а в социологии мы сталкиваемся
с особыми трудностями в силу сложности проблем, связанных с тем, что предметом
изучения здесь является наше собственное поведение.

2. Теория Вебера о влиянии пуританства на современное экономическое развитие может
служить поучительным примером для понимания того, благодаря чему теория приобретает
ценность. Взгляды Вебера по-прежнему вызывают споры, но в решении ряда вопросов
его теория проложила новые пути и во многом стимулировала дальнейшие исследования.

3. Столкновение мнений по нескольким фундаментальным теоретическим дилеммам привле­
кает к ним особое внимание социологов. Одна из таких важных дилемм связана с тем,
как следует понимать соотношение социальной структуры и действий человека. Явля­
емся ли мы создателями общества или сами созданы им? Различие между указанными
двумя подходами не столь уж непреодолимо, как могло бы показаться на первый взгляд,
и подлинная проблема заключается в том, как связать одну с другой эти две стороны
социальной жизни.

4. Вторая дилемма заключается в том, следует ли нам представлять себе общества как
гармоничные и упорядоченные, или же нужно признать, что они отмечены постоянными
конфликтами. В этом случае снова два указанных взгляда не являются полностью взаимо­
исключающими, и необходимо показать, как взаимосвязаны консенсус и конфликт в обще­
стве. Для осуществления этой цели полезными оказываются понятия идеологи и власти.

5. Третья основная дилемма связана с тендером и предполагает, в частности, решение вопро­
са о том, не следует ли включить понятие тендера в социологическую теорию в качестве
основной категории. Эта проблема практически не ставилась в традиционной социоло­
гии, однако теоретики, близкие к феминизму, способствовали расширению проблематики
социологической науки в этом направлении и привлечению к гендеру более серьезного
внимания.

6. Четвертая дилемма, вызывающая в социологии непрекращающиеся споры, имеет отноше­
ние к анализу развития современного общества. Обусловлены ли процессы изменения
в современном мире в основном развитием капиталистической экономики или же здесь
действуют и другие факторы, в том числе и неэкономические? Позиции, занимаемые в этих
спорах разными социологами, зависят в известной мере от их политических взглядов
и убеждений.

7. Исследуя вопросы, связанные с развитием общества, теоретики более позднего времени
попытались преодолеть противоречия, характерные как для Маркса, так и для Вебера
и пойти дальше. Представители постмодернизма вообще отрицают возможность создания
каких-либо общих теорий исторического развития или общества. По мнению Бодрийяра,
электронные средства массовой информации разрушили нашу связь с прошлым и создали

развивший понятие социальной рефлексивности и ее последствий для понимания того,
как мы живем и что думаем о нашей жизни.
