Control of forming components of competence is provided by speaking on the topic in different forms (monologues, Jigsaw reading and speaking)

Theme: At a chemist’s

Lexics: Words and word combinations of the theme

Grammar: Present and Past Indefinite Passive

Word building: -ture, - tion suffixes

Aims:

Didactic aims: to form the following components of competence in students:

· educational (cognitive) component:

a) to form students’ knowledge on gaining pharmaceutical terms from the text using basic knowledge of Latin-Greek languages (phonetic, orphographic peculiarities of terms)

b) to form students’ knowledge on using Present and Past Indefinite Passive

c) to develop students’ knowledge on morphological analysis of words

· practical component (operational component):

a) to form students’ skills on listening (auding), reading the text with a help and without help of dictionary

b) to form students’ skills on extracting necessary information from the text, summarizing and rendering it for using un the process of educational-professional communication

· communicative component:

to form listening (auding), reading, speaking, writing skills

· self studying component:

a) to form students’ habits on working with professional medicinal supplementary literature in informative means of communication

b) to develop students’ habits on enlarging their lexics

Urgency of the theme:

Students – pharmaceutists must know the importance of studying structure of a chemist’s, pharmaceutical remedies which they will deal with in their future profession

Tasks:

a) to teach students morphological analysis of words, paying attention to the Greek term – elements

b) to define the differences between Present and Past Simple Active and Passive

c) to develop students’ skills on monological speech on the given theme for making up a dialogue-conversation by using new lexics and grammar for enlarging their lexics

d) to teach students to read the text with commenting and giving their opinion

Procedure of the lesson

Issues to be studied:

a) structure and work of a chemist’s

b) word building (-ure, -tion suffixes)

c) Present and Past Simple Passive.

Methods of teaching:

Associograms, verbal-graphic method, illustrative method, inductive method, method of integration (use of background knowledge of the passed disciplines in English), roleplays, situational tasks, creative tasks, computer technologies

 

Means of teaching:

visual aids, tables, schemes, pictograms, cards, test tasks, audio-computer technics

 

Presentation of lexics – 50 min.

Pre – vocabulary work
