Future forms

(Формы выражения будущего времени)

В английском есть несколько способов, чтобы рассказать о действиях и событиях, которые произойдут в будущем. Для этого мы можем использовать не только будущие времена, но и другие конструкции.

 

Упражнение 1. Выучите следующие слова и словосочетания, предположите, о чем будет рассказ:

en route – по пути

highway westbound – западное шоссе

site n. – место

avoid v. – избежать

windshield n. - лобовое стекло

stop off­ v.– остановка

onlooker n.– свидетель, зевака

impairment n. – нарушение

investigation n. – расследование

evidence n. – доказательство

A tree came down across the highway westbound just before 2 p.m. Monday near the Hunter Creek. By 2:04 p.m. Drive BC tweeted that crews were en route to the site.

Capral Mike Halskov with the Traffic Services said a vehicle with a lone driver tried to avoid a falling tree in rain and windy conditions. The tree hit the car near the top of the windshield, causing “significant damage”, the driver was injured and was not able to bring her car to a safe stop off of the highway.

Onlooker and Black Press sports reporter Barry Stewart said it was a big leaf maple tree that fell, blocking both lanes of the highway westbound. When Stewart arrived, emergency services had not yet reached the scene. Volunteers quickly sprang into action, one of whom had a chainsaw.

“The driver is still inside. She is unconscious,” said Barry Stewart. “I will call for the ambulance!”

“I am afraid her legs are trapped. I will telephone for the police and fire brigade as well,” suggested the other man.

They began chopping up the tree and clearing it off the highway.

Halskov said the highway was closed for a short time while the tree and debris were removed by crews. The RCMP added that their investigation is ongoing, yet there is no evidence of distracted driving or impairment.

Обратите внимание на следующее предложение: I will telephone for the police and fire brigade as well. Форма I will + infinitive употребляется для действий или фактов, которые совершатся в будущем, спонтанные решения, обещания. Когда собеседнику предлагают какую-то услугу употребляют конструкцию Shall I.....?

Упражнение 2. Представьте, что Барри Стюарт – это вы. Предложите по-английски помощь водителю машины, попавшей в аварию. Например,   I will bring you water. Или Shall I bring you water?

    1. The driver says she/he is trapped.

    2. The driver says he/she would like you to send a massage to his husband/wife.

    3. The driver says she/he is thirsty.

    4. The driver says she/he is hungry.

    5. The driver worries about some important papers in his/her bag.

6. The driver worries about his/her children, who are waiting for him/her at school.

7. The driver wonders if you could stay with his/her car until the breakdown truck arrives.
