COMPUTER IN INDUSTRY

Computer industry is the most rapidly developing industry. It comprises almost all spheres of professional life. Now business now is possible without computers. This is especially true about automated manufacturing of products and robotics. Computer control of automated production opens new horizons for the cheap and quality production of goods. People now generate, transmit, receive and store a lot of information electronically through computer networks on a scale unprecedented in history, and there is every indication that the explosive rate of growth in this field will continue.

Engineers work on control systems which we use in automated manufacturing and in robotics. Systems test the equipment, check every step of production. Engineers and operators with the help of computer control everything at plants and factories.

Computer engineering is a general field and the most rapidly growing one. It deals with both electrical and electronic industries. Electronic engineering deals with the research, design, integration and application of circuits and devices that people and scientists use in the transmission and processing of information.

The electronics of computers is the design and manufacture of memory systems, of central processing units and of the peripheral devices. The most prospective industry now is the Very Large Scale Integration (VLSI) and new computer architectures. The field of computer science is closely related to computer engineering. The task of computer science is development of more "intelligent". And computer engineering is connected with development, improving, introducing into the industry and adjusting of different electrical and electronic devices.

COMPUTER

A computer is a counting machine. It can do arithmetic problems faster than any person. Computers find the answer to a very difficult problem in a few seconds.

You give your computer some information and it remembers it. It keeps the information in its ‘memory’ until you need it. There are different kinds of computers. Some can do only one job. There are special-purpose computers. Each specific problem requires a specific computer. One kind of computer helps us build a spaceship, another kind helps us navigate it. A special-purpose computer has only one purpose and can not do anything else.

But there are some computers that can do many different jobs. They are called the general-purpose computers. There are the big “brains” that solve the most difficult problems of science. We used to think of a computer as a large machine that took up the whole room. But today computers become smaller and smaller. Though these computers are called microcomputers or minicomputers, they are still true computers.
