- uttiṣṭha tāta ta ime śiśavo vayasyās
- naṣṭa-saṁjñam anāyakam
- yathā prayānti saṁyānti
- janma-mṛtyor yathā paścāt
- dehy artha iva śāśvataḥ
- kau yuvāṁ jñāna-sampannau
- Aṅgirā said: O King! I am the giver of the son to you who desired a son, and this is Nārada, a great sage, son of Lord Brahmā.
- na dṛśyante manobhavāḥ
- yāṁ dhārayan sapta-rātrād
- jīvātman paśya bhadraṁ te
- paryaṭanti nareṣv evaṁ
- eṣa nityo 'vyayaḥ sūkṣma
- na doṣaṁ na kriyā-phalam
- bāla-hatyā-hata-prabhāḥ
- tmānandānubhūtyaiva
- so 'vyān naḥ sad-asat-paraḥ

The Kṛttikās had a son through Agni. [94]

tasyā anudinaṁ garbhaḥ
śukla-pakṣa ivoḍupaḥ
vavṛdhe śūraseneśa-
tejasā śanakair nṛpa
O King! After receiving semen from Citraketu, the King of Śūrasena, Kṛtadyuti gradually developed in her pregnancy, just as the moon develops during the bright fortnight.

atha kāla upāvṛtte
kumāraḥ samajāyata
janayan śūrasenānāṁ
śṛṇvatāṁ paramāṁ mudam
Thereafter, in due course of time, a son was born to the King. Hearing news of this, all the inhabitants of the state of Śūrasena were extremely pleased.

hṛṣṭo rājā kumārasya
snātaḥ śucir alaṅkṛtaḥ
vācayitvāśiṣo vipraiḥ
kārayām āsa jātakam
Joyful Citraketu, after bathing and by decorating himself with ornaments, engaged brāhmaṇas in offering benedictions to the child and performing the birth ceremony.

tebhyo hiraṇyaṁ rajataṁ
vāsāṁsy ābharaṇāni ca
grāmān hayān gajān prādād
dhenūnām arbudāni ṣaṭ
The King gave charity of gold, silver, garments, ornaments, villages, horses and elephants, as well as six hundred million cows to the brāhmaṇas

vavarṣa kāmān anyeṣāṁ
parjanya iva dehinām
dhanyaṁ yaśasyam āyuṣyaṁ
kumārasya mahā-manāḥ
As a cloud indiscriminately pours water on the earth, the generous King Citraketu, to increase the reputation and longevity of his son, distributed most valuable items to other citizens like rainfall.
The King gave most valuable things (dhanyam), rather than worthless things, to other persons, since he was very generous (mahāmanā).
