Some Special Research Techniques

Now modern clinics have different medical imaging techniques. Which technique to use depends on the situation and needs of the patient.

An ECG, or electrocardiogram, is a measurement of the electrical activity of the heart over a period of time. Doctors use ECGs to detect and study many heart problems.

Radiography is the use of X-rays to take pictures of the internal human body. Chest X-ray helps to diagnose and treat the diseases of the lungs and heart.

What Is an Electrocardiogram?

An electrocardiogram also called an EKG or ECG, is a simple, painless test that records the heart's electrical activity. It helps to understand how the heart works.

With each heartbeat, an electrical signal spreads from the top of the heart to the bottom. As it travels, the signal causes the heart to contract and pump blood. The process repeats with each new heartbeat.

An ECG shows:

· How fast your heart is beating

· Whether the rhythm of your heartbeat is steady or irregular

· The strength and timing of electrical signals as they pass through each part of your heart

Doctors use ECGs to detect and study many heart problems, such as heart attacks, arrhythmias and heart failure. The test's results also can suggest other disorders that affect heart function.

What Is a Chest X- Ray?

A chest x- ray is a painless, noninvasive test that creates pictures of the structures inside your chest, such as your heart, lungs, and blood vessels. "Noninvasive" means that no surgery is done and no instruments are inserted into your body.

This test is done to find the cause of symptoms such as shortness of breath, chest pain, chronic cough (a cough that lasts a long time), and fever.
