DRUGS

The metric system is used exclusively when ordering and prescrib­ing drugs. The metric unit of weight is the gram (g) and this is divided into thousandths called milligrams (mg).

The unit (единицаизмерения) of volume is the litre (l) which is subdivided into thou­sandths called millilitres (ml). The standard medicine teaspoon holds 5 ml.

Drugs may be administered externally or internally.

Drugs are classified into groups which have a specific action, such as antibacterial drugs, which are used for the treatment of infections, or local anesthetics, which abolish pain.

Antihistamine can be used when a patient has severe allergies.

If somebody has constipation, your doctor may prescribe mixture, a small amount of laxative medicine into the formula.

Over-the-counter painkiller or anti-inflammatory medicine such as Ibuprofen should reduce pain and swelling.

Next group is sedative. It is a drug taken for its calming or sleep-inducing effect.

Antibiotics are used to inhibit the growth or destroy microorganisms. It is a medicine such as penicillin or its derivatives.

When the patient diagnosed with depression

The most commonly used drugs are antidepressants, mood stabilizers and antipsychotics.
