The Volgograd State Medical University

The Stalingrad Medical Institute was founded in 1935. There was only one faculty then. It was the faculty of General Medicine. In 1985 the Institute was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labour. In 1993 it was granted the status of Academy, in 2003 - the status of University.

Nowadays the Volgograd state medical university has nine departments:

- Faculty of General Medicine, Dentistry/Stomatology, Pharmacy, Pediatrics, Biomedicine, Clinical Psychology and Social Studies, Post-Diploma Probation, Refresher Training andadepartment for International Students.

The Medical University framework comprises a number of research centres. There is a medical college training dental technicians, pharmacists, nurses. Postgraduate training involves an internship, a clinical residency and a postgraduate course.

Four educational buildings and five multi-profile hospitals are also at the disposal of the University.

At present citizens of Russia and international students study at the University. The University has been included into the WHO's List of World medical schools. The Diploma granted by the VolSMU is recognized in over 80 countries and by the World Health Organization.

Today the staff of the University includes academicians of the National Academy for Medical Sciences, professors, assistant professors, and 831 faculty members.

Medical University has established wide international links. One of the partner universities of VolSMU is Arkansas University of Medical Sciences (USA) implementing exchange programmes.

The Department for Medical Biology is one of the youngest in the University. There are several divisions at the department: medical biochemistry, biology and genetics. Students get training in all branches of biology. They attend lectures in various subjects of natural science, namely botany, zoology, anatomy, microbiology, biophysics, biochemistry, genetics and so on. They have every opportunity to master their specialty and do research under the supervision of highly qualified teachers and researches.

Graduates of the department may have different career opportunities - to work in research institutes, laboratories, higher educational establishments and schools.

Студенты с удовлетворительным исходным уровнем владения иностранным языком выполняют Задания 4,5 – задание пониженной степени сложности. Однако он также видит перспективу – более сложные задачи, с которыми справляются его сокурсники, т.е. понимает, что он должен совершенствовать свои навыки для решения более сложных задач.
