How to distract the child from the whims



 

One of the ways to deal with the children’s whims and the tantrums is to switch the child’s attention to something else. For example, “Oops, what the big tears disappear! Let us put them in the bottle!” Or “Look, there is a Caprice sitting on your shoulder and crying. Let us get her out of here!” You can distract the baby’s attention with some new bright object or offer him an interesting lesson. For example, watch a filmstrip, a cartoon or read your favourite fairy tale with him.

You can invite your child to participate in your chosen activity (= cleaning the apartment, cooking, etc.), or decide together what you will do, or you can connect to the baby’s classes yourself. Stop being a strict parent for a while, become an equal participant in some children’s game.

For example, play in “The family”. Take the role of the child, and let your baby be a father or a mother. Playing the role of an adult, he will use the experience gained in the family, and you will see yourself as if from the outside. And this is sometimes useful!

 

All three kinds of the communications are very important. When the child connects to your affairs, he feels his need, joins the world of the adults. If you decide together what to do, he gets used to the democratic communication that is learns the ways to choose what everyone likes, and not just him. Playing a children’s game, you learn to understand the baby yourself, and the child feels its importance (because in the games it is always the main one and the parent is only a timid student). But the most important thing, of course, is that in all the cases, the child gets pleasure from the joint communication, feels the parental love and becomes more understanding and tender himself.

 

The nursery rhymes
