А также: ouble: double [dΛbl], trouble [trΛbl] ove: glove [glΛv], dove [dΛv] Примечание: но встречаются и исключения: move [mu:v],flood [flΛd], blood [blΛd]
[a:] Произносится в следующих буквосочетаниях: 1. a + r: dark [ da:k ], farm [fa:m] (см. регулярно буква a в закрытом слоге: last [la:st], father [fa:ðə] – поэтому необходимо сверяться со словарём, т. очень редко a + r даёт звук [o:] warm [wo:m]; 3. Редко: salmon [sæmən]

“The present perfect tense”

He has written a book. – Он написал книгу. (Результат – Вы можете прочитать ее);

е. включает и настоящий момент: e.g.: I have seen him this morning.

Обстоятельства: today, this week, this month, this year;

Наречия: already (уже), just (только что), ever (когда-либо), never (никогда), lately (недавно – за последние дни или недели), recently (недавно – за последние месяцы или годы), up to now
(до сих пор), not… yet. (еще не…);

The present perfect tense

Время The Present Perfect Tense образуется с помощью вспомогательного глагола to have и причастия II смыслового глагола, т.е.

TO HAVE in PRESENT INDEFINITE + PARTICIPLE II

(have/has – 3 лицо ед.

e.g.: We have read this article today.

He/she has already come.

? + have/has + S + PII

e.g.: What have we read today? Why have we read this article today? Who has already come?

Perfect
не задается, его следует задавать в Past Indefinite (вспомогательный глагол - did): e.g.: When did
we read this article? When did he/she come?

В отрицательной форме отрицательная частичка not ставится после вспомогательного глагола have/has.

Наречия already/just не употребляются в отрицательной форме и меняются на not…yet.

S + have/has + not + PII

e.g.:They have not brought this book yet.

He/she hasn’t arrived this morning.

Remember the following sentences!

I have never been to France. Have you ever been to London? I haven’t seen you for ages! He hasn’t met him for a long time. We haven’t been to Moscow since last year.

Legal professions Many kinds of people working in or studying legal affairs are referred to as lawyers. But the word really describes a person who has become officially qualified to act in certain legal matters because of examinations he has taken and professional experience he has gained.     England is almost unique in having two different kinds of lawyers, with separate jobs in the legal system. The two kinds of lawyers are solicitors and barristers.
If a person has a legal problem, he will go and see a solicitor. Almost every town has at least one. Many problems are dealt with exclusively by a solicitor. For instance, the solicitor deals with petty crimes and some matrimonial matters in Magistrates’ Courts, the lowest Courts. He prepares the case and the evidence. He actually speaks in Court for you.     In a civil action he can speak in the County Court, when the case is one of divorce or recovering some debts. A solicitor also deals with matters outside Court. He does the legal work involved in buying a house, for instance. He writes legal letters for you and carries on legal arguments outside Court. If you want to make a will the best man to advise you is a solicitor.   To qualify as a solicitor, a young man joins a solicitor as a “clerk” and works for him while studying part time for the “Law Society” exams. It is not necessary to go to university. When you have passed all the necessary exams, you can “practice” which means you can start business of your own.

A Case on the road

In the old days a number of people were travelling from Bristol to London. During the long journey the passengers became friendly and didn't hide anything from each other. When the conversation turned upon robbers, a man told he had ten guineas in gold but didn't know where best to hide them. A woman advised him to put them into his boots.

Later on really a robber stopped the coach and demanded the money. Then to the astonishment of all others, the woman who had advised to hide her neighbour's money in his boot said: «I have no money, but this man has ten guineas in his boot». «The robber took the ten guineas and left. The robbed man began to accuse the woman of being in league with the robber. But the woman said: «Wait till London and I'll explain the thing to you».

(coach – карета, demand – требовать; accuse – обвинять, be in league with – быть в сговоре)

When they came to London she told that she had had a large sum of money with her and that she had told the man's secret to turn the robber's attention from her. She begged now to excuse her and awarded the man with one hundred pounds.

Grammar

“The past perfect tense”

The Past Perfect Tense

Слова-сигналы: с предлогом by (к) by 6 o’clock, by the evening, by Monday, by the end of the week.

The Past Perfect Tense

S + To have in Past Indefinite + Participle II

Had

e.g.: We had passed all the credits by the beginning of June.

They invited us to the film which we had already seen.

We had already seen the film when they invited us.

? + had + S + PII

e.g.: What had we already passed by the beginning of June?

What had we already done by the beginning of June?

Who had already passed the credits by 3?

BUT: When did you pass the credits? (Вопрос с WHEN задается в Past Indefinite)

Where had we already seen the film when they invited us?

Had we seen the film when they invited us?

S + Had + not + Participle II

e.g.: The boy hadn’t done all the work by the evening.

They gave me the book which I had not read yet.

My friend hadn’t rung me up before he came home.

1. Put the verb in brackets in the Past Perfect Tense or the Past Indefinite Tense Past Indefinite):

1. By 8 o’clock the teacher (to examine) _________________________ all the students.

2. On my way to the Institute I (to remember) __________________ that I (to leave) ______________________ my report at home.

3. All my friends (to be glad) ___________________ that I (to pass) __________________ my exams successfully.

4. When they (to enter) _________________ the hall, the show already (to begin) __________________.

The Future Perfect Tense

S + To have in Future Indefinite + Participle II

Shall/will have

e.g.: We shall have passed all the exams by the beginning of July.

It will have stopped raining by the evening.

My friends and I will have already done this work by 5.

? - Shall/will + S+ have + Participle II

e.g.: What shall we have already passed by the beginning of June?

What shall we have already done by the beginning of June?

Will it have stopped raining by the evening?

Where will it have already stopped raining by the evening?

Who will have already done this work by 5?

BUT: When will you pass the exams? When will it stop raining?

When will my friends and I do this work? (Вопрос с WHEN задается в Future Indefinite)

Для образования отрицательной формы The Future Perfect Tense к вспомогательному глаголу SHALL/WILL добавляется отрицательная частица NOT.

S + Shall/will + not + have + Participle II

Shall not = shan’t

Will not = won’t

e.g.: The boy won’t have done all the work by the evening.

It won’t have stopped snowing by this time.

e.g.: As soon as we have had dinner, we shall go for a walk.

We eat to live but not live to eat

In this fast-moving world it is necessary to watch what we eat – it should be healthy food, not junk one, which has become very popular. Eating too much junk food can cause overweight and as heart-disease. For example, it is much better to eat an apple or a banana than to eat a double hamburger with ketchup and mayonnaise. You will feel full in both cases, but a fruit or a vegetable is healthier.

Today there are a lot of different restaurants and cafes where you can eat delicious and not really expensive food. A service is usually excellent and friendly waiters help you to relax and enjoy your meal fully. You can eat any types of food in restaurants – you can try homemade cakes, beefsteaks, pasta and others. For the main course you can order fish, meat or chicken with some rice or potatoes, also you can ask for pasta and salad. You can eat a bowl of ice-cream, pieces of apple pie, and strawberries with cream or something like that for desert. For drink you can order a glass of water or juice, a cup of coffee or tea.

Eating habits are different in different countries. For example, Brazilians never eat with their hands – they always use a knife and a fork, even when they eat hotdogs. Finns like to eat hot sausages and drink beer in the streets; many Philippines prefer to eat with their hands. Also they think that it is polite to leave a little food on the plate at the end of a meal.

Well, as for me I do respect their eating habits and like to eat different countries’ food such as Italian Pasta, Japanese rice with sushi or Indian spicy meat. But anyways whatever you like you should remember words of wisdom which say that we eat to live, but not live to eat.

Law: a necessary evil?

In the opinion of many people, the law is a necessary evil that should be used only when everyday, informal ways of settling disputes break down. When we buy a train ticket a lawyer may tell us it represents a contract with legal obligations, but to most of us it is just a ticket that gets us on the train.
If our neighbour plays loud music at night, we probably try to discuss the matter with him rather than consulting the police, lawyers or the courts. Only when we are injured in a train accident, or when a neighbour refuses to behave reasonably, we start thinking about the legal implications of everyday activities.

Even so, some transactions in modern society are so complex that few of us would risk making them without first seeking legal advice; for example, buying or selling a house, setting up a business, or deciding whom to give our property to when we die. In some societies, such as the United States, precise written contracts, lawyers and courts of law have become a part of daily life, whereas in others, such as Japan, lawyers are few and people tend to rely on informal ways of solving disagreements.
It is interesting that two highly industrialized societies should be so different in this respect.

B. Caught in his own trap

It happened in England not very long ago. A judge was going for an assize (выездная сессия суда) to a distant town. His wife asked him to allow her to go with him. The judge agreed but told her not to take a lot of boxes. Next morning they started in a carriage. On the way the judge wanted to stretch his legs and his feet struck against something under the seat. It was a box. The judge was very angry; he opened the window and threw the box out. The coachman stopped the horses to pick up the box but the judge ordered to drive on.

The next day the travellers reached the town. The judge put on the robes and was ready for going to the court, but he couldn't find his wig (парик) which is a very important attribute of an English judge. Then he cried: «Where in all the world is my wig?» – «Your wig, my Lord? Why, your Lordship threw it out of the carriage window yesterday», explained the coachman who was watching the scene.
