Глагол-связка "to be" в английском предложении никогда не опускается, его место после подлежащего. На русский же язык глагол "to be" в данных случаях не переводится. Глагол "to be" не требует вспомогательного глагола для образования вопросительной или отрицательной формы. Чтобы задать вопрос нужно поставить глагол "to be" перед подлежащим: " Am I happy?", " Is the book interesting?", " Is he our teacher?". А для образования отрицательной формы употребляется отрицательная частица "not" после глагола "to be": "I am not happy", "The book is not interesting", "He is not our teacher".

Yes, he is. No, he is not. (No, he isn't.)

В разговорной речи в утвердительной форме Present Simple обычно употребляются следующие сокращения:

I am = I'm we are = we're

you are = you're you are = you're

he is = he's you are = you're

she is = she's they are = they're

it is = it's [its]

В отрицательной форме Present и Past Simple употребляются следующие сокращения:

he isn't [iznt]

she isn't

it isn't

we aren't [a:nt]

you aren't

they aren't

I (he, she, it) was not = I (he, she, it) wasn't [woznt]

we (you, they) were not = we (you, they) weren't [wa:nt]

В вопросительной форме глагол have стоит перед подлежащим.

Have you got two sons? (брит.) – У Вас два сына?

Отрицание выражается формой глагола have с отрицанием not или с отрицательным местоимением no.

I have not got a pen. У меня нет ручки.

I have no pen here. У меня нет ручки.

REMEMBER! He has large hands. У него длинные руки.

His hands are large. Его руки длинные.

1. Put the verb in the correct form:

3. Put the verb in the correct form:

„to have” or „to be“:

1. My boss … an elderly man, rather short and stout. 2. His hair is grey and thin, he … bald on the top (лысина). 3. He … clean-shaven (гладко выбритый). He … a double chin. He … always well dressed: a white shirt, a dark well-creased suit and black leather shoes. He … a serious and punctual man.

 

4. Make the sentences negative and interrogative:

5. Translate into English the following letter from Peter:

Я - Пётр Кириллов. Пётр - мое имя, Кириллов - фамилия. Мне 16 лет. Я хочу рассказать вам несколько слов о моей семье. Моя семья не очень большая. У нас 5 человек в семье. Это мама, сестра, папа и бабушка.

Моя мама - учитель географии. Она работает в школе. Она любит свою профессию. Она высокая, стройная красивая и у нее коричневые волосы. Ей 42 года. Мой отец - инженер. Ему 45. Он сильный, высокий, немного плотный. Он очень веселый и начитанный.

Имя моей сестры - Алиса. Она младше меня и она ученица. У нее светлые кудрявые волосы и голубые глаза, прямой нос и полные губы.

Она очень хорошо готовит. Моя бабушка – пенсионерка и помогает нам по дому. У нее седые волосы и красивые, голубые глаза.
