Road safety

The Ministry of Transport is responsible for drafting legislation concerning road safety.

Efforts are made to reduce the number of head-on collisions on main roads with median barriers, develop driver training and improve the road safety of children, young adults and the elderly. One aim is also to expand the network of pedestrian and cycle routes.

The Ministry of Transport cooperates with other ministries to combat drunken driving and develop traffic control.

Engineering measures should not only solve accident problems but also improve perception of safety. The measures to be considered depend on the approach adopted, from treatment of a certain site to developing action plan for the whole area, for example:
