Read the following sketches and guess what the words “was” and “were” mean.

- Are you a good swimmer now? - Are they your friends?

- No, but I was at school. - No, but they were my good

friends some years ago.

Remember! Глагол “to be” (быть, являться, находиться) в настоящем и прошедшем времени не требует вспомогательных глаголов для построения вопросительных и отрицательных предложений. Например, I was at the theater yesterday. Was I at the theater yesterday? I was not at the theater yesterday.

Past Continuous (Прошедшее продолженное время)

I was watching a film when you called me. Yesterday at 4 p.m. we were flying in a jet. Действие происходило в определенный момент в прошлом.

 

Remember! · Время Past Continuous образуется при помощи вспомогательного глагола to beв прошедшем времени и смыслового глагола с окончанием –ing. · Важно помнить, что в предложении должен быть указан момент действия в прошлом.

11 Remember and say what you were doing yesterday at:
