/. TRANSLATE THE FOLLOWING SENTENCES FROM ENGLISH INTO RUSSIAN.

Mind: the construction " to have ( get, want) a tape- recorder repaired" with the verbs 'have' ,'get' or 'want' is used to show that the action is not done by the person expressed by the subject of the sentence but by another person, other people or by a machine.


I. Do you want to have your tape-recorder repaired? 2.1 have my washing-up done by a dish-washer.
3. She usually has her hair done by the same hairdresser. 4. Peter's at his dentist's now. He's having a
tooth cured. 5.1 needn't go to the chemist's. I've had the prescription made up.

6. They took the coat to the cleaner's and had it cleaned the same day. 7. Can I have the jacket cleaned

(the dress dyed, clothes mended, shoes repaired, the car overhauled) straightway?

8. Where did you have this picture taken? It has come out very well. 9.1 want to have this stain

removed.

II. a) READ AND TRANSLATE THE DIALOGUES. ACT THEM OUT:

I.

Hotel Guest: Please, could you have my luggage brought down - two cases? I shall be leaving in

about ten minutes.

Hall Porter: Which room number, please, sir?

Hotel Guest: Oh, I'm sorry. It's 310.

Hall Porter: Right, sir... Do you need a taxi, sir?

Hotel Guest: No, my car is in the garage. Would you have it brought round?

Hall Porter: Of course, sir. What is the registration number?

Hotel Guest: CR 10653.

Driver: I'd like you to have a look at my car. I,can't tell you exactly what's the matter with it, but it's

been giving me quite a lot of trouble.

Garage Attendant: Certainly. Just park the car over there and I'll get the mechanic to look over it. If

you come back in about an hour, we'll let you know the result.

Driver: Good, and at the same time will you please have the oil changed?

Iris: Could you come round and see us Saturday evening?

Paul: Are you giving a party? What's the occasion?

Iris: Oh, nothing special. We are just having a few friends round. You see, we've just had some

alterations done to the house. We've had the inside wall between the dining-room and the sitting-room

knocked down so that there's one big room with a bay window. I'd like to know what you think of it.

Paul: I'd love to see that. I'm having my house redecorated too.

Iris: Meanwhile, I'll drop to Joan and Richard Knight and see if they can come too. They've just moved

and they're not on the phone yet.

Paul: Oh, do ask them to come. I'd love to see them.

IV.

Hotel Guest: Could you tell me what facilities there are for laundry?

Maid: Yes, sir. If the laundry is given to me before nine o'clock, you can have it returned the same day by the express service. Then there's the ordinary service, which takes two to four days. Hotel Guest: I see. I think I'll have the express service. And I'd also like to have a suit pressed. Maid: Yes, sir.

Hotel Guest: And what about dry cleaning? How can I arrange for something to be dry cleaned? Maw/:You can have your things collected and returned in the same way as the laundry.

Пациент: Что Вы говорите? Тогда его нужно лечить.

Пациент: Конечно, я хочу, чтобы мой зуб был удален.

Врач: Хорошо. Подождите минутку, я только сделаю укол (a prick).

IX ROLEPLAYING.

a). Ask the tailor to have your clothes mended. Use the words: at the tailor's; to buy a new dress (suit,

jacket, etc.) at the Central Store; long sleeves; broad shoulders; too broad in the waist; (not) to fit

(suit); to want some alterations made to the dress, etc.

b). You want to have your car overhauled. Ask the attendant to have a look at your car, use the words:

to break the front door; engine; (not) to be in avery good condition; brakes; (not) to work well; to have

(the brakes) to be adjusted.

c). Your tape - recorder needs to be repaired. Ask the shop-assistant about it, use the words: sound, not

very clear lately; tapes; to be torn from time to time; to undergo changes.
