Clashes near Korsun-Shevchenkovsky village. By Artem Leontev, residents of the Crimea, the Cherkassk Region. 20.02.2014

Artem Leontev, a resident of the Crimea, told the Public Committee on Rights of People Suffered during the Antimaidan:

‘February 20, about 4 p.m., out bus was stopped near the village of Korsun-Shevchekovsky. I heard gun shots, guys in the buss lay down and I raised my head to see what had happened. At that moment a man shot into my window from a shot- gun, the window crashed and I got a piece of glass into my eye. Then they forced us to get off the bus on by one and beat, calling ‘moskaly’ (‘Russians’, offensive). Somebody hit me with a bludgeon over the head. I staggered and was made to kneel, they forced us sing the Ukrainian anthem. They jeered at us. Then they made get on and drove the buses somewhere. We became frightened when the driver took the ignition key and ran away. We were not far a way from the checkpoint where they had promised to kill us. The armed people could become tired with ‘playing’ with the other passengers and come back for us. Some of us ran into the forest but I felt bad and sat in the bus for a long time. Then the other vehicles from our autocade arrived and it turned out that they were also let off. We couldn’t go further, as our buses were damaged: the windows were crashed, the wheels were either cut or shot through and the compartment was poured with fuel all around. One sparkle and the fire would start. We were arranged to get on the spared buses. I don’t remember the return way quite well. My eye and legs swelled up and the back ached. February 21, I was taken to Semashko hospital.’

4. A bus with Berkut officers from Sumy was attacked in the Kiev Region, several people injured. The Kiev Region, 21.02.2014

February 21, a bus returning to the city of Sumy with the local Berkut officers was stopped by protestors at a checkpoint. A skirmish occurred, hromadske.tv reports.

According to the channel’s journalists, Berkut officers from Sumy left Kiev after the Ukrainian parliament made a decision to send all special forces to their places of dislocation.

Near Brovary village some people attempted to stop the bus at a people’s checkpoint for checking documents.

The bus driver ignored the gesture requiring stopping and moved farther. Eyewitnesses say that the tyres were punctured then, however the bus moved several hundred meters further. The officers claim that they shot only in the air. The protestors ruined the bus. Then the officers were taken to the Brovary Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs under police escort and one major was taken to hospital with concussion of the brain. One local resident, a student of the 10^th form, is reportedly injured. It is also reported that two Berkut officers have disappeared.

1. In Kiev was tortured the First Secretary of Lvov City Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine, Rostislav Vasilko. Kiev, 22. February, 2014

In the centre of Kiev was performed a cruel lynching of Lvov communist, the First Secretary Of the Lvov City Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine, Rostislav Vasilko. Vasilko reported to the means of mass communication: “I, on 22. February, 2014, from 11:00 hours to 23:00 hours was tortured, pounded needles under nails, was beaten by maydadovzti in Mariinski Park with sticks, with fists, my right lung was struck, three ribs were broken, as well as nasal septum and facial bone. My skull was broken. I received concussion of second stage. I am blue all over. Tomorrow I will be made a puncture of the spinal brain. This is a black trouble! All was cleaned, the documents were taken, also the money, gold chain with crest”. Also, R. Vasilko remarked, that the torture took place on Saturday, 22 February, close to hotel “Ukraina”.

Some dozen people thrown to the synagogue in Zaparozhye bottles with burning mixture. “Coctails Molotov” wre thrown to the walls and at the entrance of the building. There was damaged the façade of the synagogue” – reported “Interfax – Religion” on Tuesday to the press office of the Federation of Jewish Communities in Russia. At the moment of the incident there were no people in the synagogue, the guards tried to catch the intruders, but without success.

1. Home of Petr Simonenko Set on Fire. Kiev, 24. February, 2014

In the home of the leader of the Communist Party of Ukraine, Petr Simonenko, early on 24. February was captured by unknown persons and was set on fire. The spouse of Simonenko, Oksana Vashtenko, reported to radio “Liberty”, that the unknown persons, who captured the home of Simonenko, are willing to burst or set it on fire. According to the words of Vashtenko, the attackers “did not found any valuables, which could cause indignation of the society”, after which they brought into the home some boxes with “cocktails Molotov”. According to the opinion of Vashtenko, the unknown persons intend to “burst or set the home on fire, in order to hide the fact, that they did not find anything

1. “Party of Regions” announces about frightening of their members by activists of Euromaidan. Rovenski region, 24. February, 2014

Radically minded activists of Euromaidan cause severe pressure to members of the Party of Regions and their families. About this it is reported in an announcement by the Deputy Chairman of Rovenski sity organization of the Party of Regions, Alla Ivoilova, reported the press service of Party of Regions

“In the last several days in Rovenski region, radically minded activists of Maidan cause severe pressure to members of the Party of Regions and their families in the regional centres and in the villages.

 

Armed with bats young people in masks enter in the homes of leaders of primary party cells, frighten people, especially, asking them to present lists of members of primary cells and a list of party members, who take part in the so called Antimaidan. In case of not presenting these lists they frighten with physical violence and burning of homes. Such cases took place only within the last few days, especially in Bereznevski and Radivilvski regions, where some days ago in the night there was an attempt to set on fire the home of the leader of the regional party organization.

 

In connection of the beginning of causing of mass pressure to party members by radically minded participants of protest actions, to separate members of the Council of Rovenski regional organization of the Party of Regions was made a public announcement about stopping of the activity of the local organizations of the Party of Regions in the region” – was reported in the announcement

 

Except from this, it was pointed out, that in some places law enforcement authorities do not react at all at the announcements of the members of the Party of Regions, and sometimes the party members “do not ask the police, fearing, that the young people in masks, knowing about the announcement to the police with claims to their actions, will visit the places of the party members and will threaten them again or already will not only threaten them”.

 

This, what now takes place in the cities, towns and villages of Rovenski region, can be called only terror. I call up all appointed by ministers security forces to take all necessary measures for securing the life and the health of the citizens and to provide law enforcement locally. I ask also immediately to be understood the facts about the absence of reaction to announcements by citizens, who are subject to political harassment by radically minded persons” – announced Ivoilova.

 

Except from this, Ivoilova urged the leaders of VO “Liberty”, “Udara” and “ Right Sector” to influence to their supporters, activists of the protest movement and to convince them in the inadmissibility of causing any pressure to their citizens, who have other political performances.

 

“I urge also the world society to take into account the performed by radically minded persons lynching, which today points to the fact, that the situation in Ukraine remains uncontrolled, and life and health of Ukraine citizens is threatened by real danger” – is reported in the announcement.
