Передмова

 

Пропонований посібник “Ukraine & Great Britain. Main Topics”призначений для використання студентами та викладачами вищих навчальних закладів I-II рівнів акредитації. Посібник складений згідно з вимогами діючої навчальної програми з англійської мови.

Мета посібника - нагромадження словникового запасу, розвиток і удосконалення навичок англійського усного мовлення.

Посібник складається з 2 розділів: “Ukraine” і “Great Britain”. Кожний розділ включає в себе кілька текстів. До текстів пропонуються лексичний коментар, лексичні вправи та завдання на вироблення мовленнєвих навичок і вмінь використання лексичного матеріалу.

Ukraine is a large country on the North shore of the Black Sea. It extends from the Carpathian Mountains to the Caucasus. It is one of the largest countries of West Europe and has an area of 603.700 square kilometers. The population of Ukraine is about 50 million people. The capital of Ukraine is Kyiv.

Ukraine borders on Russia and Belarusia, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Moldova. Two seas, the Black Sea and Azov Sea, wash the southern part of Ukraine.

In 1991 our country proclaimed its full sovereignty and independence.

Ukraine is known for its excellent climate and wonderful scenery. Its climate is mild and warm, with a long summer and a short winter. There are the following rivers in the territory of our country: the Dnieper, the Dnister, the Prut, the Cheremosh and many others.

Ukraine is rich in coal, oil, iron, lead, natural gas, salts, gold and other mineral resources.

Ukraine is a highly developed industrial and agricultural country. It produces planes and ocean liners, locomotives and carriages, tractors and combines, excavators and cars, up-to-date machine-tools and instruments, electronic equipment and TV sets, computers and synthetic diamonds. It is a producer of wheat, rye, sunflower seed and vegetables. It also produces milk and meat products.

The peoples all over the world know Ukrainian art, music, and theatre. Our country has many well-known and gifted painters, actors and singers. The people are hospitable, resourceful and musical.

Ukraine is a member of the United Nations Organization and takes part in the work of many international organizations.
