Q. Should I submit my parents’ birth certificate?

A. It is necessary to submit an official document (i.e., applicant’s birth certificate or family register) that proves you and your parents' relationship. If the document does not include you and your parents' citizenship information, then you should submit additional document (i.e., passport copy or other government issued document that certifies citizenship information) for a proof of citizenship.

부모님의 출생증명서를 반드시 제출해야 하나요?

지원자와 부모님 간 가족관계를 증명할 수 있는 지원자의 출생증명서 혹은 가족관계증명서와 같은 공식 문서는 반드시 제출해야 합니다. 만약 해당 서류에 국적 정보가 포함되어 있지 않다면 지원자/부모님의 국적을 증빙할 수 있는 추가 자료(여권 사본 혹은 기타 정부발급 문서)를 제출해야 합니다. 

 

Q. My father has been deceased long time ago, and I cannot provide his proof of citizenship.

A. If you are not able to issue your parent(s)’ proof of citizenship due to your parent(s)’ divorce or death, please provide supplementary documents that explains the reason for not submitting their proof of citizenship. (i.e., death certificate or divorce certificate).

아버지는 오래 전 돌아가셔서 그 분의 국적 증빙자료를 발급받기가 어려운 상황입니다.

부모님의 이혼, 사망 등의 사유로 부모님의 국적 증빙 자료 제출이 어려운 경우에는 이혼증명서, 사망증명서 등의 추가 자료를 제출하셔서 국적 증빙 자료를 제출하지 못하는 이유를 설명해 주시기 바랍니다.

 

 

Q. My parents and I hold different citizenships. Am I eligible to apply for the program?

A. Yes you may. If you hold a citizenship of NIIED designated countries that are invited to take part in our Global Korea Scholarship program AND if you and your parents do not hold Korean citizenship, you are eligible to apply for our program.

저와 부모님은 서로 다른 국적을 소지하고 있는데 이 경우에도 프로그램 지원이 가능한가요?

네 가능합니다. 지원자가 GKS 배정국가의 국적을 소지하고 있고, 지원자와 부모님 모두 한국 국적을 소지하고 있지 않다면 프로그램 지원이 가능합니다.

 

 

Q. I have a master’s degree. Can I apply for a master’s degree program with a different major? Which degree certificate should I submit?

A. You can apply for a master's program while holding another master's degree. If you are applying to a master’s degree program, you should submit a degree certificate and academic transcript of your bachelor's degree. In this case, your CGPA of your bachelor’s degree should meet the grade requirement of in the application guidelines. Providing your master’s degree certificate and academic transcript is optional.

저는 이미 석사 학위를 가지고 있습니다. 다른 학과의 석사 학위 프로그램에 다시 지원할 수 있을까요? 이 경우, 어떤 학위증명을 제출해야 할까요?

이미 석사 학위를 소지한 사람도 GKS 석사 학위 프로그램에 지원할 수 있습니다. 석사학위 프로그램에 지원하는 경우 학사학위 증명서와 학사성적을 제출해야 하고, 학사학위의 성적이 모집요강의 자격 요건에 맞아야 합니다. 석사 학위 증명과 석사 성적은 원하시는 경우 참고용으로 제출하실 수 있습니다.

 

 

Q. It takes one year in my country to get a diploma after my graduation. Can I apply with my provisional certificate?

A. The document you submit as a graduation certificate must indicate the date of your graduation. If your document certifies your graduation and allows you to proceed to a higher education, you may apply for the program. However, universities may request scholars to submit their official degree certificate (or diploma) for an admission, so please double check with the university you are applying to.

우리나라에서는 졸업을 하였더라도 임시증명서만 발급해주고 공식 학위증명서는 1 년 후에 발급이 됩니다. 임시증명서로 지원이 가능할까요?

졸업증명서에는 졸업일이 반드시 명시되어 있어야 합니다. 말씀하시는 임시증명서가 공식적으로 졸업을 증명하고 상위 과정으로의 진학이 가능함을 보장한다면, 해당 증명서로 지원하실 수 있습니다. 그렇지만 한국의 각 대학에서는 입학 허가를 위해서 공식 학위기 제출을 요구할 수도 있으므로 지원하시는 대학으로 미리 문의를 주시기 바랍니다.

 

 

Q. I am currently enrolled at a university in Korea pursuing Master’s degree. Am I eligible to apply for the Master’s degree program?

A. You are eligible to apply for our scholarship program if you have not graduated from a Korean high school or university. Those who have previously studied in a Korean university as an exchange or visiting students can also apply if you have not attained a degree with the program. However, if you are selected as our GKS scholar, you must drop out of the university you are currently enrolled at and start the degree program under GKS as a first year. The transfer of credits from your previous university is not possible. Applicants who are residing in Korea may need to return to their own country in order to issue a new visa for their Korean language program/degree program. In this case, their entry airfare will not be provided.

한국에서 석사과정을 다니고 있는 학생입니다. GKS 석사 과정에 지원할 수 있습니까?

한국에서 고등학교/대학교를 졸업하지 않았다면 GKS 프로그램에 지원이 가능합니다. 한국에서 어학연수 혹은 단기 교환학생으로 공부한 경우에도 학위를 받은 것이 아니라면 지원이 가능합니다. 단, GKS 장학생으로 선발될 경우, 기존에 다니고 있던 한국에서의 학위 과정은 모두 포기하고 1학년부터 새로 학위 과정을 시작해야 합니다. 기존에 이수한 학점은 인정되지 않습니다. 한국 거주 중인 지원자는 어학연수/학위 비자의 재발급을 위해 다시 본국으로 돌아가야 할 수도 있으며, 이 경우에는 입국 항공료가 지원되지 않습니다.

 

 

Q. I am in the last semester at one of the Korean universities for a Bachelor’s (Master’s) degree program and am expected to attain degree soon. Am I eligible to apply for a Master’s (Doctoral) degree under GKS?

A. No, you are not. If you are classified as a student who are expected to attain your degree in Korea, you are not eligible to apply for a GKS program. However, if you are an Overseas Korean adoptee or a previous GKS scholar who is expected to or have already attained a degree in Korea, you may apply for a GKS Graduate degree. Previous GKS scholars can participate in the GKS program once more in a higher degree program if he/she gets selected as a final successful candidate.

한국에서 학사 (석사) 과정 마지막 학기인 학생입니다. GKS 석사 (박사) 과정에 지원할 수 있을까요?

지원하실 수 없습니다. 한국에서 학위를 취득 예정인 경우에는 GKS에 지원하실 수 없습니다. 단, 해외 입양인이 지원하거나 기존 정부초청장학생이 재지원하는 경우에는 가능합니다. 기존 정부초청장학생은 최종합격 시, 상위 학위과정에서 한 번 더 장학수혜를 받을 수 있습니다.
