MY SUMMER AND WINTER HOLIDAYS

In summer students do not go to higher schools. They have summer holidays which are two months long. They don't have to get up early. There is no homework to do and lessons to learn. That's why they like summer holiday. I like summer holidays because I have a lot of free time. I never stay in bed long on a bright summer morning. Sometimes my friends and I go to the cinema or to a concert. Sometimes we just play football or badminton in the yard.

Every summer I go to the country to stay with my grandmother for a week or two. I help granny to work in the kitchen garden or to look alter chickens and ducks. In the village I often go on long bike rides with my cousin. Sometimes we go fishing. I like to go to the beach in the morning when it is not too hot. I swim, sunbathe and play with my friends on the bank of the river. If my uncle is not very busy he takes my cousins and me on a hike in the forest. I like sleeping in a tent, sitting by the fire and singing songs. Summer holidays are never too long for me.

Winter holidays are shorter than summer ones. They begin in the end of January and last about two weeks. It is so nice to have a rest from the lessons.

It is usually very cold in winter, but frost and snow can't keep us indoors. It's so great to go skiing down a hill, in the forest. Boys like to play hockey on the ice. Many children go to the skating rinks to skate. Small children play snowballs and make snowmen, or ride happily on the sledges.

When the weather is bad I stay at home and watch TV. There is always something interesting on during winter holidays. Sometimes my friends come to see me and we play computer games or listen to music. There is also more time for reading, drawing, making model planes, knitting, sewing and other hobbies.

Holidays pass quickly and soon it's time to go to an institute again.

Helen: Oh, what a beautiful view! The sea... I love the sea! We'll swim, we'll lie in the sun and go boating.

Michael: Yes, we'll take a boat trip along the coast and take pictures.

Helen: And when we come back we'll make an album of our wonderful holiday in California!

Michael: OK, I'll take my new camera then. I think we'll enjoy our holiday there.
