Cyprus is situated in the northeastern corner of the Mediterranean, at the meeting point of Europe, Asia and Africa. Since the dawn of history, Cyprus has been one of the most interesting areas of the region and has a rich and visible cultural history.Cyprus is endowed with golden beaches, virgin green forests and other natural wonders. The environment is one of the healthiest in the world, free from pollution and the other ill effects of industrialized countries. Crime is almost non-existent. The Cyprus economy is booming and political stability is firmly established. Because Cyprus provides an ideal setting for higher learning, it is no wonder that it has become a major international education centre, attracting scholars and students from all over the region, fostering international understanding and peace. An ideal setting for learning, cultural diversity, a forum for international understanding and peace - these uniquely Cypriot qualities provide a firm foundation for Intercollege's educational philosophy. Mission. The Intercollege mission is to assist students to become educated individuals, to achieve their academic and career goals, and to assume responsible roles in a changing world of international cooperation and interdependence. Objectives. In pursuit of its mission, Intercollege strives to: -Offer quality, career-oriented undergraduate programs, graduate studies in select fields, and quality professional programs; -Implement the College motto "excellence in education" by encouraging students to strive for excellence in every activity; -Remain firmly committed to the economic, social, scientific, and cultural development of Cyprus; -Develop further as an international college, where Cypriot and international students, faculty, and staff are valued for their cultural diversity; -Recruit and retain qualified faculty and support their development; -Encourage research, publications, and creative activity; -Personal growth, discovery and learning; -Continually review and update programs to keep peace with developments and standards in Western higher education; -Enhance student communication, democratic leadership and critical thinking skills; -Expand opportunities for professional and social interaction within the College. Founded in 1980, Intercollege has an established reputation for quality higher education. Intercollege is the largest and most prestigious college in Cyprus. Indeed a relevant opinion survey conducted by an independent research firm showed Intercollege to be "the most reputable college in Cyprus". As a modern, progressive institution, Intercollege offers unique educational opportunities to students of varied backgrounds. At Intercollege students benefit from: -The opportunity to earn the College's reputable qualifications; -Transfer possibilities to prestigious American, British or European universities; -The international character and diverse academic backgrounds of the faculty who have either earned their qualifications from the United Kingdom or the United States or are nationals of these countries. The faculty consists of highly qualified lecturers selected on the basis of their academic and professional expertise; -The experience of being a member of an internation student body. Intercollege students come from many nations to prepare for leadership positions in the professions, the arts, government, industry. The Nicosia campus is the oldest and is situated within a mile from the city centre. Nicosia has been the capital city of Cyprus since the 12th century AD. It is the seat of government and the principal diplomatic, administrative and commercial centre of the island. The city is rich in it cultural and historical heritage with museums, theatres, art galleries and libraries. Foreign embassies and consulates are also located in Nicosia. The capital is an ideal centre for both business and leisure. Nicosia is also a popular venue for many international seminars and conferences, with an excellent infrastructure including the International Conference Centre. Clearly this overall environment is ideal for students interested in business, computing and related fields. The second most important city in Cyprus, Limassol, situated in the south, has the island's main port and is a commercial centre of major importance (most off-shore companies registered in Cyprus are based here). The town is the island's wine-making centre. The immense growth of tourism, the numerous luxury hotels, the restaurants, taverns and tourist shops make the town an ideal place for students interested in the business, banking. Hospitality and tourism fields are among them too. The third largest city of Cyprus, Larnaca is the second commercial port and where the Cyprus International Airport is located. Larnaca can boast of its own contribution to the cultural heritage of Cyprus. Larnaca is a rapidly expanding tourist resort. Though it has undergone rapid urban development, Larnaca has retained its character of old mingled with the new. The College is at the centre of the town, close to the main shopping streets and only 30 metres from the seafront. An ideal town for students interested in the tourism and commercial fields. Computer Facilities The College has a centrally-supported distributed computing environment to allow the interworking of workstations and microcomputers with appropriate servers over the high speed communications network. The computer facilities of the College cater for the needs of Computer Science, as well as students of other programs. The Computer Centres are equipped with the hardware needed to support teaching and research in the College's areas of expertise. All computer lab workstations are connected to Local Area Networks (LAN) for sharing central service facilities and for connection to the Internet. Engineering Laboratories The engineering facilities serve the educational needs of the engineering students as well as the research needs of the faculty: Electric Circuits and Electronics equipped for instrumentation, measurements and error analysis of electric circuits provides students with the necessary tools to develop, test and troubleshoot modern electronic circuits from prototype to finished product. Digital Circuits and Microprocessors Students become acquainted with the design and testing of basic and advanced digital circuits, and with integrating these components into digital systems. Electronic Communications Experimental units are provided for the analysis of analog and digital communication systems. Training is provided in generation, modulation, transmission and reception of analog and digital signals for various modulation Glossary
