It is true that not many Belarusian families have two or more children. Maybe, one of the reasons for this is that everything is expensive including education. (And in my opinion, it is quite reasonable. Personally, I’m an only child and I like that my parents devote all their love and attention to me.) But in my opinion, there should be at least 2 children in the family. The children in big families are not selfish, they learn to help one another. An only child is often spoilt – they get everything they want from their parents all the time. But there are some advantages too. I mean, you get lots of attention all the time from your parents and you don`t have to share everything with the other children. But I think big families are better. All the big families I know are always friendly and good fun. Of course, it`s more expensive to look after a big family – so money can be a problem.

Like many families in our country, we traditionally celebrate New Year, Women’s Day and our birthdays together. We have some other family traditions like making barbecue at our summer cottage, making special gifts to celebrate some achievements of our family members, going to the cemetery on ‘Radunitsa’ day and others.

It’s true that some families have a problem of generation gap. You see there is a period of 20 or 30 years between parents and their children, and life changes a lot during this period. Many things around us change: manners, fashions, movies, music, tastes and so on. And some parents can’t understand their children’s world. I think it’s natural. Every new generation is different from their parents and grandparents. And their views and opinions don’t always coincide. But I think that if the members of the family are great friends, they will always try to understand each other.

There is a saying “Blood is thicker than water”. It means that family ties are the strongest. I must say, my family means a lot to me. My parents are the two most important people in the world. They always support me and help me in difficult situations. And I really appreciate everything they do for me. I’m lucky to have a sister (brother). We get on well with each other and spend a lot of time together.

I am on good terms with my parents. I have an excellent father, and we love him dearly. And my mother always tries to help me as much as she can. My grandparents live far away but they often come to visit us. We always celebrate our birthdays together. All this makes our family more united and I am happy to have such a good family.

Friends play a big role in our lives. I think there are good friends and best friends in everyone’s life. I have many good friends with whom I often spend my free time. We go out for a walk or to a café or to the cinema. Hanging out with friends is a great way to relax.

But best friends are very hard to find. I have only one best friend. We are nearly the same age. We have a lot in common: we share the same interests and attitude to life. We seldom quarrel, as there is a mutual understanding between us. Whenever I’m in trouble she (he) is always ready to lend me a helping hand.

2) Can you rely on your best friend? Why (not)?

Yes, absolutely. I can always rely on my best friend and I can share with her (him) my top secrets. She (He) has never ever let me down. If I’m upset my best friend always finds a way to make things better.

What can you advise a teenager who wants to make new friends?

There are some things I can advise a teenager who wants to make new friends. First of all, they may join different clubs and make friends with young people who have the same interests. Secondly, they may take part in school events and make friends with students from other classes. And finally, they can meet new people on the Internet.

Nowadays people prefer to have more money than many friends. What do you think about it?

I totally disagree. I think that friends are much more important than money. Friends support you and help you in difficult situations. You can share happy and sad moments with your friends. So, they are rich who have true friends.

Today some young people think that having good education is not very important. Do you agree with them?

On the one hand, I think that having good education is very important. You can’t be a good specialist without good higher education. Good education is a chance to have an interesting and well-paid job. On the other hand, your personal qualities are also very important for a successful career.

I think I’m too young to be weather dependent. But on some days when the weather is cloudy or rainy I can feel bad.
