b) Make similar dialogues and role play them with your partner. You can use the following expressions:

Excuse me, where is the American Airlines check-in desk?; How many bags can I check?; Will my luggage go straight through, or do I need to pick it up in [Chicago]?; How much is the fee?; Please mark this bag as ‘fragile’; “Is the flight on time?”; Did you pack your bags yourself?; Has your luggage been in your possession at all times?; Are you aware of the regulations regarding liquids in your carry-on?; Are you carrying any firearms or flammable materials?; Have you left your luggage unattended at any time?; Has anyone given you anything to carry on the flight?

 

Task 29. Role-play. Make a list of objects which would not pass a security check.

Student A. You are a security officer and examine a group of passengers going through a detector. The officer asks questions about the objects, e.g.: “May I see the contents of your pockets?”, “What’s in your bag?”, “ May I see it?”, etc.

Student B. You are a passenger who has a prohibited item in you baggage. Be ready to answer the questions of a security officer. 

 

Task 29. Role-play.

Study the roles and the table below. “Passangers” should be prepared to inform the clerk about the problem and ask for assistance. “Clerks” should be ready to help to solve the situation. 

Student A. You are a passenger who wants to fly to some of the following destinations. Choose your destination and then ask for details of your flight: find out when it departs, when you have to check in, when boarding starts and so on.

Student B. You are traveling with a little baby. Choose your destination and then ask for details of your flight: find out when it departs, when you have to check in, when boarding starts and so on. Also? Inquire about the facilities which the airport provides for people like you.

Student C. You are a passenger who wants to fly to some of the following destinations. You lose one of you suitcases in the airport. Ask the clerk for the assistance.

Student D. You are a passenger who wants to fly to some of the following destinations. Your flight is delayed. Ask the clerk for assistance and facilities of the airport available for you.

Student E. You are a passenger who wants to fly to some of the following destinations. Unfortunately your are late for your flight. Explain your problems to the clerk on duty and ask for assistance.

Student F. You are a passenger who wants to fly to some of the following destinations. You have 6 suitcases and you badly need them all! Explain your problems to the clerk on duty and ask for assistance.

Students G. You are clerks on duty at the Information desk at Manchester Airport one Friday morning in April. Help the people who enquire about the flights shown on this time-table or help them deal with their problems:
