I’d like to watch an interesting programme on TV. What can you advise me?

Watching TV depends on your interests and tastes. If you want to know about the current events you should watch “The News Programme”. If you are a romantic person you should watch different concerts and serials, for example “Golubka” or “ Marusya”. If you like detective stories, watch “ Liteiny” or “ Ulitsy Razbityh Fonarey”. If you are fond of sports, you should watch sports programmes on different channels.

But I advise you to watch “ Kontury” on Sunday. You will know the latest news in Belarus and abroad from this programme.

Unfortunately, I don`t have enough time to surf the Internet, but I`d like to do it. Which sites would you recommend visiting?

It depends on your interests and tastes. If you want to get the news, weather forecast or just chat, go to “Mail.ru”. You can watch or download films on “My-hit.ru”. You will listen to music on “’Muzofon.com”. If you are interested in travelling, you will find necessary information and photos on “National Geographic”. With the help of an education site “Aleng. ru” you will practise you English, watch useful videos and do drills. You choose!

My cousin spends a lot of time in “Contact” and it makes all the family angry. What can you advise him and the family to do in this situation?

First of all you should tell your cousin that using the Internet a lot causes social isolation and ruins eyesight. Having so many friends in “Contact” doesn`t mean that they are your real friends. Chatting with these people takes a lot of free time. Instead of surfing the Internet you should spend time with relatives and friends. It will be more useful to walk in the street, to go to a café or to the cinema together.

Writing letters is one of the means of communication. Unfortunately, many people are losing this skill. Can you advise me how to write a good letter?

If you want to write a good letter, you need a pen, paper and an envelope. Begin with a greeting, and then write the news. Try to be short and don`t lie. Ask questions. Show that you are really care about your pen- friend`s news. Say that you are looking forward to reply. In general, be friendly, polite and caring. Don`t forget to write addresses on the envelope. Nowadays many people don`t write letters as often as in the past. Do you think it`s true?

I agree that nowadays many people don`t write letters as often as in the past. But I can say this only about paper letters, because today people prefer writing letters in the Internet. The Internet is the main means of communication in the world. It is faster and cheaper. But I should mention that many people still enjoy getting paper letters by post. It gives them pleasure and a sense of personal contact.

Many people say that newspapers and radio are not as popular as TV and very soon they will lose their importance. What is your point of view?

Each mass medium has its own advantages and disadvantages. Of course, TV is more popular than newspapers and radio. Besides, TV gives not only information but also pictures and images. But there are a lot of people who prefer newspapers, they like to keep them in their hands, they like the smell of the printer’s ink. They just like reading. As for radio, it also has fans. They get the news and listen to music. Music radio channels are very popular.

Speak about the reasons why you like or dislike watching the news?

Watching the news has its own advantages and disadvantages. The news informs people on the topical issues of the day. It brings the world to our rooms. The news gives us information about everything: sports, art, problems and new discoveries. But sometimes we get bad news which hurts and upsets us: tsunami, earthquakes, problems in economics, wars. Besides sometimes the news focuses only on violent actions or sensations. And I don’t like it. I want something positive.
