It was a fortress, a royal residence, a prison, now it is a museum

London is famous for its green parks Hyde Park is the most popular of them It is the greatest park in London as well.

London is the center of the country's cultural life. There are many picture galleries and museums in the capital. The National Gallery houses a priceless collection of paintings The famous British museum is one of the best museums in the world.

School education in Britain

The British school education today offers a free education to all children between the ages 5 to 18.

At the age of five the children start their compulsory education and between the ages of 5 and 11 they go to primary school. They attend a different class according to their age and there are about 30 children in each class, on average.

At infant school (from S to 7) the children become acquainted with reading, writing and arithmetic in the form of games The emphasis is on learning through experience and much of the time is devoted to (посвящается) playing, drawing, painting and music The infant school lays only the foundation in reading, writing and arithmetic and tries to create an interesting beginning to these complicated learning processes Today's classrooms are very different from 40 years ago. Pupils who wish to enter a University or a college of higher education stay at school up to the age of 18

Today, over 90 per cent of the stale secondary school population in England and Wales go to comprehensive-schools, that is state schools that are open to pupils of all abilities The Comprehensive School provides all types of secondary education for all children in a district, irrespective of their supposed intelligence.
