Числівники поділяються на кількісні і порядкові. Кількісні числівники відповідають на запитання скільки? Порядкові числівники відповідають на запитання котрий?

Особливості утворення кількісних числівників

· Від 13 до 19 кількісні числівники утворюються за допомогою суфікса –teen.

· Кількісні числівники, що означають десятки від 20 до 90, утворюються за допомогою суфікса –ty.

· Між сотнями та десятками, а, якщо пропущені десятки, то між сотнями і одиницями ставиться and: 358 – three hundred and fifty eight.

· Числівники hundred, thousand, million не приймають закінчення –s у множині: two hundred books.

· Розряди цілих чисел в англійській мові розділяються комами (на відміну від української мови, де нічого не ставиться): 7,356 (в українській: 7356); 1,234,765 (в українській: 1234765)

· Десяткові дроби в англійській мові розділяються крапкою, яка читається point. Кожна цифра як цілої, так і дробової частини десяткового дробу читається окремо. Нуль читається zero: 56.704 – five six point seven zero four.

Особливості утворення порядкових числівників

· Усі порядкові числівники, крім first, second, third утворюються від відповідних кількісних числівників за допомогою суфікса –th.

· Порядкові числівники вживаються з означеним артиклем.

· Деякі числівники мають відмінності у правописі: fi ve – fi f th, eigh t – eighth, nin e – ninth, twel ve – twel f th.

· У числівників 20^th – 90^th буква y міняється на ie перед суфіксом -th.

Числівники у датах

· При читанні чотиризначних чисел, що означають роки, спочатку читаються дві перші цифри, а потім дві останні: 1992 – nineteen ninety-two.

· Дати пишуться так: 5th Dec., або: Dec. 5th., або 5.12. – і читаються: the fifth of December або December the fifth. Часто також вказується рік. Пишеться: April 3rd, 1962 або 3.4.62. Читається: April the third nineteen sixty two.

· Коли необхідно вказати день тижня, то пишемо так: Sunday, 7th September.

UNIT 5

ДІЄСЛОВО (THE VERB)

Дієслово в англійській мові має чотири форми, тобто чотири закінчення

Форми дієслова

Infinitive (що робити?) (що зробити?) to make – виготовляти, виготовити to shock – шокувати

Past Simple (що робив?) (що зробив?) made – виготовляв, виготовив shocked – шокував

Past Participle (який?)   made – виготовлений   shocked – шокований

Present Participle (який?) making – той, що виготовляє shocking – шокуючий

 

Дієслова діляться на правильні і неправильні. Правильні дієслова – це ті, які мають у другій та третій формі закінчення –ed. Неправильні дієслова – це ті, які не мають у другій та третій формі закінчення –ed. Вони утворюють ці форми шляхом зміни кореня (див. Таблицю неправильних дієслів).

Четверта форма дієслова утворюється додаванням закінчення –ing, як до правильних, так і до неправильних дієслів, тому в таблиці неправильних дієслів вона приводиться не завжди.

Особливості вимови та написання дієслівних закінчень.

Закінчення - ed вимовляється так:

[t] - після глухих приголосних звуків: asked.

[d] – після дзвінких приголосних та голосних звуків: played, learned.

[Id] – після звуків [t], [d]: added, planted.

 

При додаванні суфікса – ed дотримуються таких правил орфографії:

· Дієслова, що закінчуються на –e, додають лише –d: dance – danc ed.

· Дієслова, що закінчуються на приголосну + y, опускають y і додають -ied: cry – cr ied.

· Дієслова, що закінчуються на голосну + y, просто додають –ed: play – played.

· Дієслова, що закінчуються на одну наголошену голосну між двома приголосними, подвоюють останню приголосну і додають –ed: plan – pla nned.

· Дієслова, що закінчуються на –l, подвоюють l і додають –ed: travel – trave lled.

При додаванні суфікса – ing дотримуються таких правил орфографії:

· Дієслова, що закінчуються на –e, опускають –e та додають –ing: dance– danc ing.

· Дієслова, що закінчуються на одну наголошену голосну між двома приголосними, подвоюють останню приголосну і додають –ing: plan – pla nning.

· Дієслова, що закінчуються на –l, подвоюють l і додають –ing: travel – trave lling.

За допомогою даних чотирьох форм дієслова утворюються всі двадцять шість дієслівних часів в англійській мові: шістнадцять часів активного стану і десять часів пасивного стану.

 

ЧАСИ ДІЄСЛІВ (TENSES)

 

Група часів Simple:

Смислове дієслово використовується у першій формі для утворення всіх часів, крім Past Simple.

Для утворення стверджувальних речень у Past Simple використовується друга форма смислового дієслова. (У запитальних та заперечних реченнях у Past Simple використовується перша форма.)

Допоміжні дієслова, що використовується для групи Simple, такі:

Present Simple - do/does;

Past Simple – did;

Future Simple – will;

Future Simple in the Past – would;

Група часів Continuous:

Смислове дієслово використовується в четвертій формі.

Допоміжне дієслово – to be, дієвідмінюване в часах Simple.

Група часів Perfect:

Смислове дієслово використовується в третій формі.

Допоміжне дієслово – to have, дієвідмінюване в часах Simple.

Група часів Perfect Continuous:

Смислове дієслово використовується в четвертій формі.

Допоміжне дієслово – to have + to be, дієвідмінюване в часах Perfect.

*Часи Future in the Past вживаються замість відповідних часів Future у підрядних додаткових реченнях, якщо дієслово-присудок головного речення вжито в минулому часі:

He said he would have returned home by Sunday afternoon.

He said he would have been working there for six years by the end of that week.
