ЗНАЕТЕ ЛИ ВЫ?

Have you ever repaired or furnished your room? If yes, tell what you did. If no, tell what you would do.

Well, I haven't repaired or furnished my room because I'm a child. But in future I'd like to have my own house and I'll furnish it according to my taste. This will be a big modern detached house with all modern conveniences. I have seen such houses in modern magazines. The walls will be covered with light wallpapers and wonderful pictures. The rooms will be furnished with stylish furniture of a modern design. My room will be made in a white-red combination.

Education. Choosing a career

I.

1.

Let’s talk about education. What can you tell about the place where you study? (What can you tell me about your school? What’s your school like?)

2.

Let’s talk about education. What can you tell me about the system of education in Belarus?

As you know, our modern world makes a person be flexible and mobile, creative and inventive. Modern life makes a person broaden his horizons, use modern technologies and learn foreign languages.

To get knowledge people need education, they need to turn theoretical knowledge into practical skills. Nowadays we can get education at school, college and university. There are also many possibilities for self-education.

In my view, the main principles of the educational system in Belarus are the priority of human values, national culture, scientific basis and support of gifted children. Primary and secondary school education is compulsory in our country. The main task of school is to develop a child’s personality and talents. Pupils go to school at the age of 6 or 7. The school year lasts from the first of September to the end of May and is divided into 4 terms. The school day lasts from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The school uniform in our school and gymnasiums is required.

I study in gymnasium № 3 in Pinsk. The school building itself is of a typical design with 56 classrooms, administrative offices, the canteen, 2 gyms and the library.

Here I’d like to say that all our teachers are highly educated people devoted to their work. Besides we don’t have serious discipline problems in our gymnasium.

Every year different concerts, sports competitions, Olympiads, picnics and excursions are held in the gymnasium. We also have the pupils’ administration. There are a lot of traditions in our gymnasium: subject weeks, competitions, like “Lady Autumn” and “Mister Listapad”, “Maslenitsa”. I’m always in them.

I should mention my favourite subjects. They are English, History, Maths and Literature. I’m good at them. Sorry to say I don’t like Geography and Chemistry.

In conclusion, I must say I’m lucky to study in our gymnasium.

3.

Let’s talk about your future career. What would you like to become? (What kind of job would you like to have in future? What is your idea of an ideal job? What would you like to do in future? What is your career goal?)

As you know, our modern world makes a person be flexible and mobile, creative and inventive. Modern life makes a person broaden his horizons, use modern technologies and learn foreign languages. To get knowledge people need education, they need to turn theoretical knowledge into practical skills. Nowadays good education means a good job.

I am leaving school soon and I’m thinking about possible careers and jobs. It’s very difficult to choose your future career because there are many alternatives and you don’t know where to start.

We usually sat that all roads are open before our school-leavers. While at school I have changed my mind a lot of times.

Some pupils choose their future profession under the influence of their parents or friends. In my opinion, the final choice should depend on what you are interested in. For me, interesting and creative work is the most important thing. I want to enjoy my work and get satisfaction from it. And at the same time I’d like to have a well-paid job.

I made my choice last year. I want to enter the Belarusian State University.

I am going to be a lawyer. Lawyers don’t only punish people for different crimes but try to prevent them. They help people to find the right road in life. The lawyers protect the rights and interests of citizens and organizations.

I’d like to be a journalist. They tell people the truth and provide them with news and true information. A journalist must be interested in many subjects and must be a well-educated person. They try to solve different problems with the help of mass media.

I want to work in an advertising company. Advertising products and services is very important for modern society nowadays. It helps people to make the right choice and to save money at the same time.

I have a dream to be a doctor. This is an interesting and noble profession. I want to help people who face health problems. Doctors should be kind and attentive to people. It’s one of the most demanded professions in the world.

I’d like to be a teacher. Teaching can be called the greatest of the arts. It’s a great responsibility to bring up children. Teachers should be well-educated and well-informed. They help their pupils to understand the world we live in.

Luckily my main interest is not money but the belief that my profession is very important for our society. This noble profession demands constant creativity and erudition. I think I will do my best to be tactful, self-confident and objectively-minded. Of course, to become a good specialist I should be devoted to my profession. I should be persistent and hard-working.

In conclusion I should say that working is the best way through which people can be helpful and they can enjoy life.
