The reading of the letter Xx

a) the letter Xx is pronounced as [ gz ] before shock vowel sound;               

e.g.: exam, exit

b) the letter Xx is pronounced as [ ks ] in other cases;

e.g.: text, next

 

I. Read the following words according to the rules of reading of the letter «Xx»:

exact, exercise, exit, mix, X-ray, extract, exist, mixture, textbook, textile, oxen, example, box, six, expansion.

 

II. Put down the words into 2 columns: the words with the sounds [gz], [kz].
