Dear friends,

You have already realized that university is a world in itself which is new for you and needs to be understood. You have also got acquainted with typical communication situations in it and learnt how to interact in them. All in all you have gained the basics of university survival.

This section aims at making you think and speak about university in a different perspective. Have you ever wondered why universities are so numerous and in which way they differ from each other? Do you know what makes people choose this or that establishment to study at? What does it mean to be a university-type person? Are you yourself a learner who can cope with university formats? These are the questions raised in Section 2B.

The tasks of this section will lead you to definite answers. You will learn about some European universities and different criteria that can influence people's choice of a university to enter. While reading about the types of universities you will find out about the aims that universities are aspired to reach and will compare them with your own purposes. It might be of interest for you to discuss the value of learning at university. And it might be of even more interest and use for you to discuss it in the format of true university members – the one of a round table. Finally, you will learn about one of the greatest learners ever and will reflect upon his accomplishments.

As you see your opinion is in the focus here. So while working through this section you will learn how to express your opinion in an academic way. After you study the material you will be able to find, sort out and classify issues, state problems and solve them in scientific discussions, interpret texts and present your reviews.
