About us:

Lunaria is an association started in 1992 carrying out research, information, training and actions on social economy, immigration, globalization, youth and seniors programmes and voluntary service.

Our activities include

· youth projects: information and participation, intercultural understanding, non formal education

· promotion of international voluntary service for all, with activities for the European voluntary service: youth and senior volunteers exchanges. International workcamps and solidarity activities

· campaigns, building coalitions of civil society groups for alternative priorities in public expenditure, expanding the third sector, North-South solidarity, integration of immigrants

· research, with projects on employment and work in the social economy, ethical finance, immigrants, globalization

· services, advising non profit organizations on law, fiscal and financial opportunities

· training, with courses on the social economy, managing non profit organizations and understanding globalization

The purpose of our work is to bring together understanding and action; social rights and voluntary activities; the local and the global. Lunaria organizes workcamps all around Italy, in partnership with local groups, associations, municipalities and other bodies. We promote not-for-profit projects, for the benefit of the local communities and to fight racism and increase intercultural exchanges.

“We ask to the international volunteers to commit themselves in the mission of the hosting projects, having an open mind, and arriving aware that the accommodation conditions may not be suitable for those looking for cheap and comfortable holidays. Every project is made by many factors, and we need from the volunteers a problem-solving approach.”

The workcamp is coordinated by an experienced volunteer, who is not the boss of the camp: we ask the camp-coordinators to ease the fist days of the camp and to involve the volunteers in a being responsible of the project, using consensus methodology. The camp-coordinator is not at all responsible for volunteers' fun and the best camp has a camp-coordinator who slightly go back to the status of normal volunteer.....So, prepare to take responsibilities!

Age limit: 18+, exceptions are +21 in case of some projects not fitting with too young volunteers, 15-17 on LUNA 09 and +45 on LUNAR 21

Common language used in the camps: English

Extra fee: In “Open Nature” projects may be charged a fee if weather won't permit working. Other exceptions are to cover free time activities (20?) or extra activities (30/50?). TEEN and SENIOR workcamps have extra fees.

PROJECT:All the activities of the volunteers will be organized by WWF Provincia di Crotone. The main pourposes of this association are environment and legal control. This camp is important from another point of view since the volunteers will sleep in a hostel (formerly it was a market confiscated to local mafia). The WWF turned an old building closed since 1997 in to an hostel called C.E.L.A. without any economic help. The province of Crotone is the poorest of Italy and unfortunately it is economically controlled by mafia, consequently we decided to work together with other associations in order to create a mafia-free economy and to improve the economic level of the community. WWF will host international volunteers to provide an intercultural experience and to support the activities in favour of the environment and to improve the hostel premises.

LOCATION: The province of Crotone is located on the Ionian coast of Calabria in the south of Italy. This small territory unifies the largest European Reserve Marine that of Caporizzuto and the National Park of Sila mountain. The origins of Crotone dated back to the VII century B.C. when the Greeks started colonizing the south of Italy (Magna Grecia). Crotone became a cultural centre thank to Pitagora who built the Pitagoric School. In Midle age The Aragonise built along the coast a series of towers and Fortress in order to protect the territory from the pirates invasions. Work:At Isola Caporizzuto: Installation and maintenance of stances. Works of maintenance and restoration of dry stone walls and containment; Gardening (pruning, cleaning flower beds, removal of stones and plant pest, earth moving, etc.); At CELA(hostel): Painting, gardening, The volunteers, helped by the members of WWF, will build a pick-nick area with tables and benches.Other small manual works could be required with update to the applicants

ACCOMMODATION: The CELA is an hostel made up of three rooms with 4 bank beds and a bath room in each room. It is located in San Leonardo di Cutro between the two the tourist residences of Serenè and Porto Kaleo. It is only two hundreds metres far from the sea and there are two large gardens around the hostel.Food:The volunteers together with a member of wwf will organize the meals. Any personal menù will be discussed with the members of the association.

LUNAR 01 AGAPE 1 PRALI MANU 25/03/13 8/04/13 VOLS 8

PROJECT: Agape international ecumenical centre is a place of encounter where you can live an intense experience of community in beautiful natural surroundings. Agape was and still is an important point of reference in Italian Protestantism, for 50 years a place of education and development, theological exploration, political engagement, of acceptance and validation of differences. Every year many people, with different religious, cultural, political background, and of different age, come to Agape to discuss and to be challenged, to get to know themselves and each other and to exchange experiences around a particular theme. Agape was built after the Second World War as a sign of hope and of reconciliation between people, thanks to the voluntary work of many young men and women; a resident group still lives at Agape throughout the year. The dimensions of community and voluntary service remain central. Please visit: www.agapecentroecumenico.org to see which are the activity programmes for this period.

WORK: In our web site www.agapecentroecumenico.org you can have an overview about the camps organized by Agape during the year. The volunteering work (workcamp) is absolutely important for our centre in supporting these activities, at the same time, volunteering workers are one of the most important part of Agape ecumenical and international community.

Agape works thanks to a group of people living here all year long, the so-called Resident Group. Every Resident has a sector of which is responsible (kitchen, cleaning, bar, maintenance, etc) And you will be asked to work WITH the Resident Group.

Working hours may vary slightly according to the type of work one is involved with. However, 6-7 hours on average a day are required, six days a week.

The different tasks where volunteers’ are needed:

-kitchen (preparing food)

-dishes (laying and cleaning the tables, dishwasher)

-cleaning up (WC and rooms)

-maintenance work

-bar tending

-babysitting

The workcamp is an international experience, thus giving the volunteers the opportunity to meet young men and women from all over the world. Depending on whom the international group is targeted at, people at the Center generally speak in Italian, English, German, French and Spanish. This is an opportunity to meet different cultures, ideas, and spiritualities and exchange experiences. Thus, it is advisable to speak one of the above mentioned languages, or at least try to learn a few words before setting off for the camp. Every week, work camp volunteers, together with the resident group, organize evenings of group discussions, games, etc.

During Easter Holidays (28/03 – 1/04), Agape will organize the Lesbian Camp. Agape has a long tradition of gender camps, we also organize the Women Political Camp and the Gay Camp, usually on summertime. The women participating at the Lesbian Camp practice the separatism and they ask us, both women and men, to help them. It means that during activities hours, no men are allowed to enter where they're attendig the camp. Usually, activities hours are the same of working hours.

Then we'll have a break to set the center for a group of psicology students that will come at the end of your stay (05/04 – 07/04).

ACCOMMODATION AND FOOD: Usually the workcampers will be host in 3-4 bed bedrooms. Toilets are in common on the floor. The meal are typical Italian Mediterranean's ones and there's a vegetarian alternative for those they required it, as well as for any specific allergies. It is possible to use a washing machine.

TERMINAL: Turin.
