Actions were in progress at special time in the past

Two actions were happening at the same time (the actions do not influence each other)

Together with the Simple Past

Repeated actions irritating the speaker (with always, constantly, forever)

When two things happen in the past, we have to mark which one happened first.

The past equivalent of the Present Perfect

1) .S omething started in the past and continued up until another time in the past

A long action before another action in the past to show cause or effect.
