Множественное число имен существительных

Имена существительные имеют категорию падежа (общий и притяжательный) и числа (единственное и множественное). Английские имена существительные образуют форму множественного числа следующим образом:

1. Общее правило – путем добавления окончания –s к слову

a doll + -s = dolls                       a head + -s= heads

2. Если слово заканчивается на –s, -x, -ch, -sh, -o, то к слову необходимо добавить –es

a dress+-es=dresses                  a box+-es=boxes

a dish+-es=dishes                     a peach+-es=peaches

a potato+-es=potatoes

3. Если слово заканчивается на согласную+y, то форма множественного числа образуется следующим образом - (-y →-i)+-es:

a fly+-es=flies                         a city+-es=cities

4. Если слово заканчивается на –f(-fe), то множественное число образуется так: (-f/fe→-v+-es):

A leaf+-es=leaves                   a wife+-es=wives

5. Ряд существительных являются исключением и их форму множественного числа необходимо запомнить:

a child – children a man – men a woman – women a person – people a mouse – mice a tooth – teeth a foot – feet

a goose – geese an ox – oxen a deer – deer a sheep – sheep a fish – fish a fruit – fruit

 

Притяжательный падеж имен существительных

Имена существительные в ед. числе	’s	Rita’s mother – мама Риты The cat’s nose – нос кошки
Имена существительные во мн. числе с окончанием -s	’	The girls’ books – книги девочек The farmers’ horses – лошади фермеров
Имена существительные-исключения во мн. числе	’s	The children’s dog – собака детей The men’s clothes – мужская одежда
