Lyra Belacqua— a supposedly (0) orphaned, twelve-year-old girl residing at Jordan College, Oxford—secretly enters and hides in the (1)_____ in the college, despite resistance from her dæmon, Pantalaimon — an animal-formed, shape-shifting manifestation of her (2)_____. The film was directed by Tim Burton in 1999. The screen version was made by make-up effects designer Kevin Yagher (screen story), a young writer Andrew Kevin Walker (screen story and screenplay) and Tom Stoppard (uncredited); based on Washington Irving (The Legend of Sleepy Hollow).

The film was so criticized for its amount of violence and bloodshed that Burton had to defend the film in a public interview.

Sleepy Hollow also won many awards. Art director Rick Heinrichs and set decorator Peter Young won the Academy Award for Best Art Direction at the 72nd Academy Awards, and both Heinrichs and costume designer Colleen Atwood were awarded at the BAFTAs. The film also won the Saturn Awards for Best Actress (Christina Ricci) and Best Score (Danny Elfman), five Satellite Awards, and honors from the Art Directors and Costume Designers Guilds.
