Skills round up units 1 to 8, exercises 1 and 2

Narrator It’s Monday morning. Dave and Márton are both working at the hotel.

Márton Hi, Dave. How was your weekend?

Dave It was OK. I worked on Saturday.

Márton How about Sunday?

Dave I stayed at home. I phoned some friends, cleaned my flat … nothing exciting. How about you?

Márton Well, on Saturday evening, I went to the theatre.

Dave Really? What did you see?

Márton I saw Romeo and Juliet.

Dave Oh, right. That’s Shakespeare, isn’t it?

Márton Yes, it is.

Dave Who did you go with?

Márton My housemate, Anna. She had two free tickets.

Dave Really? How did she get those?

Márton She works for a magazine. They wrote an article about Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre and the theatre gave them some free tickets.

Dave That’s good. So Anna invited you.

Márton Yes, that’s right. Anyway, I really enjoyed the play. And after the play, we went for a pizza – and I saw your friend there, in the restaurant.

Dave Which friend?

Márton Your Italian friend – Francesca!

Dave That’s amazing! Did you speak to her?

Márton Not really. We just said hello.

Dave Actually, she’s coming to the hotel today. I’m meeting her for lunch. Why don’t you join us?

Márton Thanks! If you don’t mind …

Dave Of course not. Anyway, what did you do on Sunday?

Márton I went shopping.

Dave Did you buy anything?

Márton Only a shirt – a white shirt, for work.

Dave Did you do anything on Sunday evening?

Márton Not really, Anna and I watched a DVD. It was a romantic comedy – I can’t remember the title. Then I sent a few e-mails to friends in Hungary. I didn’t go to bed until … [FADE]

Narrator It’s lunchtime. Dave and Márton are in the hotel restaurant.

Dave Could I have a large Coke, please?

Waitress Of course. And for you?

Márton I’ll just have a glass of water, please,

Márton Still.

Waitress Sure. Anything to eat?

Dave Actually, we’re waiting for a friend.
