ВВЕДЕНИЕ

 

Целью изучения дисциплины «Иностранный язык (английский)» является развитие навыков практического владения иностранным языком как разговорно-бытовой, так и специальной речью в письменной и устной форме для выполнения профессиональных обязанностей.

Для студентов заочной формы обучения неотъемлемое место в изучении иностранного языка занимает самостоятельная работа, один из обязательных ви­дов этой работы - выполнение письменных контрольных работ.

Цель выполнения контрольных заданий –тренировка полученных знаний, проверка степени освоения материала учебной дисциплины.

Данные методические указания были составлены в соответствие с рабочей программой.

Контрольная работа представлена в 5 вариантах. Студент должен выполнить один вариант в соответствии с последней цифрой зачётной книжки (1 или 2 - 1 вариант, 3 или 4 - 2 вариант, 5 или 6-3 вариант, 7 или 8 – 4 вариант, 9 или 0 – 5 вариант).

Каждый вариант контрольной работы содержит следующие задания:

1. выполнить письменный перевод текста

2. составить 5 специальных вопросов к тексту

3. найти соответствующие эквиваленты

4. вставить артикли a/an/the где это необходимо

5. вставить much, many, little, few, a few, a little, a lot of и перевести предложения на русский язык

6. образовать сравнительную и превосходную степени сравнения прилагательных

Выполнять задания контрольных работ можно выполнять письменно в отдельной тетради или набирать на компьютере и предоставлять в распечатанном виде на листах формата А-4. Обязательным является титульный лист, где должен быть указан номер контрольной работы, название дисциплины, специальность, группа, шифр зачетной книжки, фамилия, имя, отчество студента и фамилия, имя, отчество преподавателя. (см. Приложение 1)

При выполнении контрольной работы оставляйте место для замечаний и объяснений.

Материал контрольной работы следует располагать в зеркальном виде.

Если контрольная работа выполнена без соблюдения указаний или не полностью, она возвращается без проверки и не засчитывается. Срок проверки контрольной работы преподавателем – до 7 рабочих дней.

Полученная от преподавателя проверенная контрольная работа с замечаниями и методическими указаниями с оцениванием «к защите» должна быть переработана (т.е. необходимо выполнить письменное исправление ошибок той части, где они имеются). Коррекция должна быть выполнена в той же тетради, что и контрольная работа. Если контрольная работа «не допускается к защите» по причине многочисленных ошибок, контрольная работа с исправленными ошибками предоставляется вместе с предыдущей.

Все контрольные задания с исправлениями и дополнениями необходимо сохранять до зачета и экзамена, так как они являются важными учебными документами. Помимо этого они дают возможность повторить учебный материал к зачету или экзамену.

POLLUTION

1. People have designed and produced up-to-date machines and technologies to make their life easier and more comfortable. But all these activities result in air and water pollution.

2. One of the most important problems is the oceans. A lot of ships crossing the oceans and seas, especially those that carry oil, put their wastes into water, and the water becomes dirty. As a result many birds and fish die because of polluted water, others are getting contaminated and people may get sick from eating them.

3. The second problem is air pollution. Cars and plants pollute the atmosphere with their wastes. They destroy the ozone layer which protects us from the dangerous light of the Sun. They also destroy forests which are dying from acid rains.

4. Now people begin to realize the danger of their activities. People are concerned about the air and the water used by everyone, they are also concerned about the future of the planet because they understand that these activities affect the balance of nature.

5. In order to make our life not only easier but better and healthier we must learn to protect the water, the air and the earth from pollution. Our planet belongs to our children and if we want our children to live in a healthier world we must do everything to protect them from the catastrophe.

ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

1. People have thought that the environment is an unlimited source of resources, that the atmosphere, forests, rivers and seas are capable of absorbing all wastes. The environment supplies the economy of any country with its resources such as timber, minerals and oil. As a result, natural resources are becoming reduced, air and water are polluted, and the environment is unable to absorb all its wastes.

2. For example, waste gases cause acid rains; this leads to forest damage and therefore reduces the resources of forests. Another problem is water shortage resulting from unlimited use of it. The third one is destroying the ozone layer of the Earth through pollution from plants and cars. One more problem is damage to wildlife. It is possible that some kinds of animals can disappear due to people's activities.

3. Some territories in Russia are also suffering environmental problems. Many of these problems have been caused by economic activities. Many forests in the north of European Russia and the Far East are under threat.

4. If we want to live in a healthier world we must learn to use the environment carefully and protect it from damage caused by our activities. Otherwise very soon we will have no world to live in.

THE PROBLEMS OF ENVIRONMENT

1. One of the greatest problems of all modern cities is the environment pollution. Every year people consume more goods. Production of goods and services uses energy and natural resources (oil, gas, coal, wood, etc.). All these things are used faster than they can be replenished. Natural resources and energy are getting more expensive, and air and water are becoming seriously polluted. The problem of environmental pollution is well-known to most people. We have heard about it on television and radio, and have read in newspapers and magazines.

2. The worst environment pollution is caused by the manufacturers who put chemical wastes into rivers and seas. Another problem is air pollution. The air is polluted by traffic and smog from industrial enterprises.

3. The word smog comes from smoke and fog. Smog is a sort of fog with other substances mixed in it, which can be harmful, even deadly. Such diseases as eczema and asthma are linked to air pollution.

4. Materials like paper and glass can be reused, but, unfortunately, many materials, especially plastics cannot be reused and cannot be absorbed by the earth again. Some plastics cannot even be destroyed. As a result of this people face the problem of preservation of our environment.

5. All these things are very serious and people must realize what will happen if they don't do everything possible to reduce man-made atmospheric pollutants and smog.

MARINE POLLUTION

With the substantial growth of vessel traffic in the world ocean the pollution of the sea has greatly increased resulting in damage to life in it and along its shores. The open sea is being polluted these days mainly from ships, while the coastal waters are being contaminated either from ships, or from offshore oil drilling rigs, or from port cities and sea-side settlements. What are the main po­tential sources of marine pollution? These are oil, oil products, no­xious liquid substances carried in bulk, vessel generated and indu­strial wastes, sewage, domestic rubbish, etc. The effect of pollution of the sea is beginning to be felt by an ever growing number of people. For many of them it is evident now that marine environ­ment protection is becoming a global problem which can be solved only by the united efforts of the whole of the mankind.

When we speak of oil pollution, we should keep in mind that the principal cause of such pollution is the discharge of oily mixtu­res from ships (e. g. tank washings from tankers) or oil spillage as a result of accidents at sea.

Below is given a newspaper report on one of such accidents.

Supertanker sinks off South Africa, causing spill.

The driffing bow section of a Spanish supertanker that caught fire off the South African coast was fitted with a tow line, and a tugboat was preparing to pull it out to sea and sink it, salvage experts said.

MARINE POLLUTION.

The sternsection of the 271, 00-ton tanker Castillo de Bellver sank about 25 miles (40 kilometers) off the Cape of Good Hope. Theoil that had spilledwas not considered a threatto sea life, but farmers up to 65 miles inlandreported an oily mist settingon their crops.

The five-year-old tanker caught fire as it roundedthe Cape with 250,000 tons of crude oilfrom the Gulf. The cause of the fire was not immediately determined.

The vessel broke aparteight hours later, after 31 crewmen and two passengers had abandonedit. Three crewmen were missing.

About 40,000 tons of crude oil was thought to have spilled into the ocean, but a 20-mph offshore wind was blowingthe slickaway from the rich fishingand lobster groundsnear the shore.

Mike Garnett, technical manager of the International Owners Pollution Federation, flew over the area and said he was "happily surprised"that the oil slick was "not nearly as large, as dense and as big pollution threat as he had imagined".

"In fact, with nature in our favor, with the wind blowing the oil to deepsea, and with the aid of the Benguela Current, it is not a significant threat at the moment." The Benguela is an offshore current.

He added, however, that the wind could change, and that he was not sure how much oil was still leakingfrom the holds of the sunken section.
