A: Hey, Eva. You don’t look good.

B: No. Not happy.

A: Why not? What’s up?

B: There’s someone at work … He’s called Neil and he’s a real problem.

A: Why? What does he do?

B: He talks all the time. He never stops! He talks to me, he talks to other people, he talks on the phone. Sometimes he doesn’t talk. But when he doesn’t talk – he sings! It drives me crazy!

A: Oh no, that’s really bad!

B: Yes, and that’s not all. He eats snacks all the time, too – chocolate, cheese, things like that. I have sandwiches and fruit for lunch, but he has hot food. There’s a snack bar near the office. He goes there every day and brings chicken and chips into the office for lunch. It really smells!

A: Do you talk to him about this?

B: Well, that’s the problem. He never listens. He thinks he’s fantastic and he doesn’t listen to anyone else.

A: Are you OK, Owen?

B: No, I’m not OK.

A: Oh dear. What’s the problem?

B: The problem is Vera.

A: Who’s Vera?

B: My brother’s girlfriend. I don’t like her.

A: Why not?

B: She comes to our flat, but she doesn’t do anything. She smokes and she reads the newspaper. That’s all.

A: Oh, right. Does she have a job?

B: No, she doesn’t. But my brother says she has a lot of money.

A: She sounds OK. She smokes and she reads. That’s not so bad, is it?

B: Hmm … maybe. But I don’t understand her. She doesn’t eat meat, fish, cheese or eggs. She always eats vegetables and pasta.

A: She sounds interesting. I’d like to meet her.
