My Dearest Friend. Sunny and I met on the first day of secondary school on a warm autumn day. After class I told her that her name described the weather perfectly that day. She laughed, and we became friends. Sunny is an attractive girl in her late teens. She is tall and slender and dark-skinned and she usually wears her shoulder- length brown hair in a ponytail, which highlights her hi cheekbones and long oval face. When she smiles, her almond- shaped eyes sparkle and her whole face lights up. She wears light makeup and fashionable clothes. Sunny has an incredibly warm personality. She is supportive and knows how to encourage people when they feeling down.

However, she tends to be very stubborn and determined. Once she's made up her mind about something, one can make her change it!

Sunny always lives life to the full. In fact, she finds it very difficult to sit still for long! She's always humming her favourite songs, too, whatever she's doing! «The phantom of the opera»

It was the evening on which the managers of the opera were giving a last gala performance to mark their retirement. Suddenly the dressing room of Sorelli one of the principal dancers, was invaded by dozen young ladies of the ballet, who had come up from the stage. They rushed in confusion, some laughing unnaturally, Sorelli, who wished to be alone for a moment to go through the speech which she was going to make to the resigning managers, looked angrily at the mad crowd. It was little Jammes: It is the ghost!" And she locked the door.

The dressing room was decorated elegantly. A mirror, a dressing table and a cupboard provided the necessary furniture. On the wall hung an engraving of her mother, who had k nown the glories of the old Opera. But it seemed a palace to the brats of the ballet, who in their dressing rooms, spent their time singing, smacking the dressers and hairdressers.

"You see the ghost. And it was true. For several months, there had been nothing discussed at the Opera but this well- dressed ghost who stalked about the building, like a shadow, who spoke to nobody, to whom nobody dared speak and who vanished as soon as he was seen.

Like a real ghost, he made no noise in walking. All the girls pretended to have met this supernatural being.

"He is extraordinarily thin and his dress-coat hangs on a skeleton frame. His eyes are so deep that you can hardly see the fixed pupils. You just see two big black holes, as in a dead man’s skull.

His skin, which is stretched across his bones like a drum, is not white, but a nasty yellow. His nose is so little that you can't see it from the side; and the absence of that nose is a horrible thing to look at. All the hair he has is three or four long dark locks on his forehead and behind his ears.

The role of mass media»

The role of mass media in the life of the present society is difficult to overestimate. They have become a daily and essential necessity with contemporary men. Mass media report about various aspects of life, form and affect public opinion. Mass media comprise press, radio, TV and the Internet. In this or that form mass media come into every home. To understand the meaning of mass media for the people it is necessary to consider their every aspect separately.

Television (TV) is a telecommunication medium for transmitting and receiving moving images that can be monochromatic (shades of grey) or multicolored. Images are usually accompanied by sound. "Television" may also refer specifically to a television set, television programming, and television transmission. Commercially available since the late 1920s, the television set has become commonplace in homes, businesses and institutions, particularly as a vehicle for advertising, a source of entertainment, and news. Since the 1970s the availability of video cassettes, laserdiscs, DVDs and now Blue-ray Discs, have resulted in the television set frequently being used for viewing recorded as well as broadcast material.

The Internet was created in 1983. Since that time it has grown beyond its largely academic origin into an increasingly commercial and popular medium. The Internet connects many computer net works.

It is based on a common addressing system and communications protocol called TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol). By the mid-1990s the Internet connected millions of computers throughout the world. Many commercial computer network and data services also provided at least indirect connection to the Internet.

The World Wide Web, which enables simple and intuitive navigation of Internet sites through a graphical interface, expanded during the 1990s to become the most important component of the Internet. Newspapers appeared in many European countries in the 17th century. The first English printed news book averaging twenty-two pages was the Weekly News. It appeared in London in 1621. By the 1640s the news book had taken the form of a newspaper.
