Task 1. Read, translate and explain the proverb.

"To know everything is to know nothing".

A proverb

Job hunting is never easy. So the main strategies are the same: compose a good resume and perform well in the interview. While a cleverly written resume can open doors, a poorly written one almost always goes to the trash can, closing the doors of career even for the most talented candidates.

Resume or curriculum vitae (CV) is a short written account of a person's education and past employment. Here you should point out all your merits and rewards, personal and professional skills.

There are several rules for writing a really good resume:

· resume or CV must have something that can draw the attention of employer or a human resources manager (your skills and talents which can fit a certain position)

· it should contain only relevant information

· your CV should be no longer than two pages

· as a rule CV has a special structure.

· sometimes interests and hobbies can be relevant and should be included. They make good impression on employer.

Those who send a resume to a company or firm by e-mail or fax should also write an application, which is a letter to employer asking for a job. That’s why people, who are going to get a certain position in some company or a firm, are called applicants. Usually application doesn't have any fixed form and the main requirements for application are literacy and politeness. While sending an application one should remember that it must be short and contain your objectives and attitude to the desirable job. Don't forget that application is a letter, so your resume must be sent as an attachment.

Task 2. Study the forms from Appendix 2, name and describe them.

Task 3. Write your own resume and present it to your group.

Interview.

Task 1. Read and translate.

Hi, my name’s Jack, I’m a human resources manager (HRM) and I’d like to tell you how to go through the interview and to keep cool when the pressure is on.

Interview is an occasion when a person is asked questions by one or more people to decide whether he or she is a suitable person to be given a job. So, remember, that any employer is taking a risk when hiring someone. That’s why candidates have to be able to sell themselves. Your appearance and manners are really meaningful. A candidate should also know who is interviewing him. For example, a potential boss would be interested in your professional skills and knowledge. And a human resources manager would like to hear more general information without specific words and topics. In most cases it’s really so. Besides, you should be active – show interest and ask questions. Don’t be nervous, just relax, slow down and answer the questions.
